Multiplayer connection issue (seems to be unique)
Howdy,
Well, my problem with multiplayer seems to be a little different from what I've been reading about in here. I've completed the single player storyline and I've explored pretty much every system with no problems. Whenever I try to play multiplayer I run into problems.
If I select "Internet" the server list screen comes up, but it never connects to the global server. The message "Connecting to Global Server..." appears in the upper right corner, my computer slows to a deathly crawl and it never connects. I can, with great difficulty, get back to the main menu and exit the program.
If I select "LAN" the game lags almost as much as going to the "Internet" screen even though there are no servers or games to load.
Here's my system specs:
Dell Dimension 8400
P4 3.0 GHz
1 Gig RAM
20+ gigs of free harddrive space
Radeon X300 video card
Windows XP SP2
DSL connection (unlimited bandwidth)
I'm not sure of my DirectX version (how do I check it?)
My game is mod free with the exception of using the FLCharacter Editor to change Trent's costume
So far, I've tried all sorts of things related to the firewall: opening ports 2300-2305, turning the firewall off completely, adding freelancer and FLServer to the exceptions list, but none of this has worked. The only difference I've noticed is that if I turn off my firewall, the Freelancer becomes less lagged in the multiplayer screen than if the firewall is on. The windows firewall is and always has been turned off.
If anyone can offer any helpful suggestions, I would be most appreciative, but I've read tons of posts in here and tried what they suggested and no progress has been made.
Phil
