bandwith question

Hello

I represent a downlaod forum some people of you might know

We have just bought a 80 server, 50 gig a month limit

we didn't intend to but got screwed a bit, we didn't see the limit coming since it was a freaking expensive server

but well damage control kicked in and having a member who's a freelancer addict, he succeeded into turning some other members, including me, into freelancer players

but what I want to know, how much bandwith does a freelancer server take up?

how much players can I allow on a 50 gig / month bandwith conditions

if anyone could tell me, I'd aprreciate it alot !

Fraid I got no idea - will have to wait for someone with more knowledge (ie server admin) to respond.

Out of curiosity - how much was the server? We talking that you own the box, or just 'rent' it so to speak?

Am curious, especially since my own website has a larger transfer limit than that...

well we own over 400 gig of servers

this one .. was a mistake ... and costed a freaking lot of money

our other server have unlimited bandwithn, someone in a less sober state of mind ordered this one and we try to make the best of it

we have plenty of money, this one was a .. mistake we are trying to put into use

Hmmm, never considered a server with a bandwidth limit but then I have both my servers on two ADSL lines with no limits.

You could work it backwards. 50 GB in 30 days, 1.667 GB a day, 69 MB an hour, 1.157 MB a minute and 19.2 kB a second. That equals to nearly 192 kbps. Since it has to be two directions and for a FL server the uplink is about the same as the downlink, that that is 96 kbps one way. IMO that's about a 10-12 player amount. Thus you could run a 10-12 player server around the clock.

Unless you had lots of friends playing at all times, I doubt you'll reach this limit of 50 GB a month. If you ran something else though...

Running **UK Server** 24/7 - 90 active players - so usually someone on at all times - get up to 15 on usually late at night (UK Time)- server takes 12 gig a month bandwidth.
