We've all gone too long without any FL multiplay, is there any comment from MS about the Global server being down? I'm asking you since u'r the moderator here...figured you might have some insight. Is there any hint from Bill's domain, or did the poor thing (server) finally wear out after all these years? Thx.

well well, all the sudden the global server is working again, for me anyway, I'm sorry I don't have a solution for the rest of you but I didn't do anything to my internet or change any settings or anything. Maybe there's a network ISP problem, like a glitch that would affect only certain people throughout the world. I don't know, I'm no computer genius at the least.
As soon as the global server began working again, I wrote down the ip adresses of all the servers I have visited.
I would recommend everyone to do that. If the global server stalls once again, you can correct directly to your favorite servers with the -s command line option or with one of the GUI tools which have been made for this.

This worked for me. I made a copy of the Freelancer desktop shortcut, right clicked on it, selected Properties and changed Target from this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe"
...into this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -s213.208.119.228:2302 -s212.227.21.64:2302 -s195.149.21.205:2302
Now I have access to these servers, even if the global server is down.

how can I connect to a spesific ip address ? I use the next generetaion mod and there is a listing of available servers to play with this mod. unfortunately I simply can't. I can't use the -s command because there is no port listed in the readme. I downloaded a file called "tflconnector 1.2.exe" I thought it might help but I can't use it. actually no changes occured when I used the program . HELP PLS. I'd be very happy if you recommend a WORKING program for this 'cause i am not good with command line parameters.
Howietje,
You will not need an account on the Freelancer server before connecting to it directly.
It should not be necessary to make any special router configurations. Freelancer multiplayer only uses outgoing connections, not ingoing. Almost any default configured router for a home network will allow all outgoing connections and only deny ingoing connections.
I cannot answer your Zonealarm question. I don't use that software.
