Suggestions For Server System Specs

Does anyone know of the recommended specs to run an FL Server?

Dual cpu at least 2Gig/2000+, If you cant get a dual cpu's which help with server loads when running admin utilities, then the best single CPU you can get. IE P4 2.6 gig or AMD 2600+ or better.
1gig of ram.
T1 connection.

Software: nothing else except the Freelancer Server / Admin utlitlies / firewall running on it, it can't be run along side web servers etc, as FLserver is a cpu hog at the best of times.

well if you what the best no matter what it costs get a duel 64bit processers. at least a gig of ram 2-4 recomended. if you can get a mobo with a agp slot intgraeted will use the proscers so it wil case lagg when your working on it. but dont spened much on the gpu its not all that importent unless your going to play fl on it. if you plan to play on it get a raden 9600xt or a 9700 pro. but its not a good idea to play on the sever. if you can offord it get 4 64bit procers. i dont know if you can i know the intel has one but i dont know about amd. (amd is the only one with 64 bit stuff now.) make all the chips like 2.6-3< for the best runtimes. and like the other guy said get a fiarwall vary importent and if you can get like 100 gig hard drive or more. if you think you will get a lot of people get duel 500 gig monsters. that sould add up to 1tb. you will need a cd drive with rw if you can. (any thing you can write to so you can back stuff up.) any thing else i know a lot about this stuff.

This is the Config I use, took the prices from the local Mycom folder for November. It does not have to cost alot to be good enough to play.
you can be done below €400 or $500 usd.

Got some equipment from a local gathering, where the big stores put special prices on everything to sell as much as possible. look around they can really save you money.

For a Freelancer Server for 28 people max on it, i think 564 MB RAM and 2000 MHZ is enough!

I like onions! Do you?

I agree with Pinger what the average FL server needs except for the Internet connection. These average 'puters coupled with a good ADSL line (like 1.5M/384k downlink/uplink) can get you nearly 15 players with a little lag on an original FL server install. I run an Athlon XP 3200, two ADSL lines and an NPC-reduced server-side mod so I can handle over 30 players.

I have heard of FL server's running on 600 MHz 'puters but player amounts are real low, maybe 2-4 players.

Any higher spec'd 'puter must have accompanying Internet bandwidth like T1, T3 lines and higher or else the server power is a waste. It should be obvious determining what a server needs to run must take the Internet connection's bandwidth into effect.
