[MC Freeport 7 is a great place. There is a mod, but it's not required. Server-side mods increase the difficulty of the AI, and as long as it gives you a good ping, you should have no problems.

My favorite server is the just4fun server. It usually has players on it and they people playing are very friendly and helpful.
I also play the Eagle Utopia and GrimAxe Server.

My server is similar to a couple of the servers mentioned here. Here's a list of our assets:

- Boston Freelancer server has been online and serving up the best in FL since May 2003. Yes, we have players that have played for a year and a half on the server.
- TWO ADSL lines into a dedicated 24/7 Athlon XP 3200 server. Maximum player limit set to 34.
- We have typical server rules that include no dock raping, no PvP in Liberty, no initiating PK with those under level 20, no cheating/modding, no bad (i.e. swearing, racial motivated, bad taste, etc.) language in public (i.e. system chat, forum posts, etc.), no interfering with server deputies, etc. See the link below for the full description.
- We have a great friendly community especially through our forums (see link below).
- We have opt-in RPG. Placing certain tags in your character name means you are RPGing and you must follow the RPG rules. This is quite fulfilling because it is no longer unrestricted Eagle vs. Eagle warfare, instead more of the lower level equipment and systems in the game become important creating a different battlground and hence a slightly different FL experience.
- We also have a server-side mod that makes FL, especially outside of Liberty, more challenging. The server-side mod also reduces server load and thus the chance of serious lag.
- If you want more you can load the opt-in client-side mod and explore the SP systems not normally accessable in MP. Our mod team is working on a much larger opt-in client-side mod that should rival many of the mods out there yet Boston will ALWAYS allow logons by the plain, vanilla, original Freelancer.
- We have our own channel on TLR's Portalive TeamSpeak server. Another way to connect with and interconnect within the Boston community.
- We have a little of everything for everyone.

We have suffered like many FL servers and no longer have full player loads where it takes ages to log on. Yet we have players that play FL because it's fun. Whether it's the Pirate type that fires on everyone or the type that helps newbies, we are a community of players that like FL. Once you join you'll get what you put into it. Check us out!

if you were payin atenation he said SERVERS...all you did was give em a mod name....jeez....well this server has a mod but its a very fun one, 24/7 USA server, has the free worlds 1.56 mod, a fun star wars mod on it. And you xan be *somewhet unoffically to bots but still fun* a civilan, empire, new republic, and many more. just a sujestion incase ya get into moddin..

its a great server! no mods and there are lots of nice ppl! you can find factions/clans to join or you can stay as freelancer.

BTW: about the mods we have a little mod "JnD client mod" that makes you to be allowed to buy Anubis and Armored Transport ship (500 cargo).

and the missions near Omicron Gamma, Alpha and etc are always over 200 000 credits. You can find missions about 415 000 credits sometimes!
