Vallue of Multiplayer and how to choose a game?

I recently bought Freelancer, and have completed the game. (Finished the Nomad Elimination missions in 9 hours, been to all the systems and unknowns, and my info says my level 38 is the "max Level"

I am interested in finding out and joining a multiplayer game, but have have no experience with this game in that genre yet.

(1) What is the difference between Mutiplayer and single player aside from interactions with other live people?

(2) Will I be required to join a "Clan" or "Team" in order to survive my first few minutes of play? (I.E. if I don't will I be prey to established players looking to increase levels by killing me off every time I start up and venture out?)

(3) Do I need to "Mod up" in order to play effectively in multiplayer games?

(4) Will I still be able to find all the jump holes, ships, weapons, etc. that I located in the single player game?

(4) In general, what can one expect from a multiplayer game of Freelancer?

(1) The main difference is of course that there is no storyline, you begin on Planet Manhattan with a starflier and go from there. You also have options to interact with other players which you wouldn't have. You aren't confined to NY until you're at a certain level, you can go where-ever you want except Single-Player story areas. Finally, your level has no impact on what you can and can't buy.

(2) No, a lot of people don't join a clan. Clans themselves aren't actually the ones you need to worry about. You will encounter players who are complete ******** and pick on new players, but they are few and far between and generally those people are frowned upon by the community they play in. Usually it's established players and/or cheaters who kill new players.

(3) Not sure what you mean by that. If by mod you mean downloadable mods, then no, most servers don't like you using mods. If by mod you mean kitting out your ship with good weapons and whatnot, then also no. You can play just as effectively with whatever ship and loadout you want. It would probably be easier with the best stuff, but where's the fun in that.

(4) Yes, everything from Single-Player will be there. But, you cannot use the jumpholes and jumpgates you used to get somewhere specifically for the story.

(5) Single-Player without the story filled with real people. Make of it what you wish.

its not that doing open-space thing after the game isnt fun, it justs gets really really boring...playing online you never know whats going to happen....

And if you do decide to join a clan, decide carefully. Or at least build up your skills by dueling or whatever.
