Time Lag

I am wondering if all others have noticed that after more than an hour or 2 of playing on the same server that you and only you begin to lag until you restart FL only not the computer. I have checked with all others that play on the server and everyone seems to have the same issue. When you first connect everything runs just as it should and gradually over time but seems to be exellerated by death. Meaning I can freight for a couple of hours before I begin to lag a bit but if I go on a all out war with someone or a group I will need to restart FL within 30 minutes.....

Has anyone else noticed this as well and or is there a coder out there that has come up with a patch to correct this?

Lag is an everyday thing. It happens all the time when I do one of those 200K missions. It usually isn't too bad though (unless I'm right about to destroy a Nomad and he/she/it disappears).

Dark Helmet: Gimme that, you petty excuse of an officer!
Now hear this: LUDICROUS SPEED!!!
Col. Sanders: Sir, hadn't you better buckle up?
Dark Helmet: Eh, buckle this! Ludicrous speed...GO!!!

If you have broadband connection (al least cable/DSL) you won't get any lag on my server

I think you folks are missing my point.......It does not matter what server we connect to......

I have broadband

What happens is when you are connected for a long period of time you begin to lag. When first connected all is good but after 1-4 hours you have to restart Freelancer to get rid of the lag that has aquired......I get great connection to my main server (Boston with 46 ping) abd I have DSL with a 1.5Mb d/l and 256k u/l speeds........this is just a deal when connected to any server for an extended amount of time you will begin to lag and it will ONLY be you and not the rest of the players unless they have been on a long while too.

your describing hardware lag, ie poorly setup windows and pc.

1. Defrag active HD's once every 2 weeks
2. Set the Page/Virtual memory file to a Fixed Miimum and Maximum size, dont let windows control it. Rough guide is 2-2.5 times your Mobo's physical Ram but anything over 768 isn't needed, so if your mobo has over a 512 ram just set min/max both to 512.
3. Don't have msn/icq/aim etc running while gaming, system hogs and prone to memory leaks.
4. Dont have any Office utils running from the startup folder, same reason.

It is not a poorly set up windows or PC. It is not just me. This everyone that spends mulitiple hours at a time online.......I am pretty sure it is a memory leak of some type.......if you will read the first post it involves everyone on the server however, so many of you are so spastic that you do not spend 3-4 uninterupted hours at a time in 1 character on 1 server. Multiple deaths seem to agravate it as well. I have also seen this on other servers but typically when on other servers it is to go to war for an hour or 2 and then back home....so there is not enough time for it to show up....

I have a very healthy PC and am neurotic about keeping it effeciant and FL barely taxes the machine at all.
To see this issue you would have to log on, duel or fight for an hour or so, maybe run missions for another hour and then do whatever for another couple of hours and not be docked for excessive amounts of time......Like I said restarting FL seems to correct it and only takes 30 seconds but I was just curious if this is caused server or client side and if anyone else has looked into fixing it........I will guess by the responses that few of you do 7-8 hour sessions at a time much less identified a fix for it.

Well wan solo I've played this game online since april last year, I have over that time played for stretches of about 6-7 hours at a time online with mirc/VNC/putty all running in the backgorund and have never seen this. So memory leak you say, I say a PC not performing as it should. So if you don't want to do what I suggest then fine live with your PC running slow.

Ok look....I said it wasn't a PC issue.......It is a fresh install of XP pro and a defrag afterwards. The paging file is on a seperate partition and is set to never exceed 512. All startup garbage was cleared long ago. The OS and apps are running on 2 of the WD 740 10,000 RPM drives in raid 0. I have a 3.0Ghz proc. 1GB of dual channel DDR400 with latency of 2-2-3-6. A fx5900 with 256MB DDR on it. A a host of other specs that are respectable.......I can run a full virus scan, IM services, outlook, photoshop with 10 or more pics open, an FTP session, music match, and 2 instances of FL going and the box isn't even breaking a sweat.
Most of the time I run just FL on my main machine and then have laptop beside me with IM, FL tools, TS, and whatever else I need going on it.....I am a sys admin for the State and a network engineer. I know my stuff. It is not a "my pc" issue.......I have seen this all the time......6 of us in tghe same system and only 1 is lagging.....they restart FL and all is good. I have had to do this as well.
Like I have said before....THIS IS NOT JUST ME!.....if it were I would have taken care of it long ago. This is everyone that I have talked to over the past 8 months. It does not bother most as they will just restart FL and they are back to full speed or they are spastic enough that they are never on continuously that long.

This does not happen every time but often enough that makes me wonder.
