Freelancer Criminal Investigative Service
I had briefly introduced this idea in a reply on the "Freelancer Heaven" topic but I thought it would be best to address this to everyone on the board.
My idea for a new Freelancer clan is called the Freelancer Criminal Investigative Service, or FCIS for short (yes, I did steal the name from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service: NCIS). The main purpose of the group is to provide server admin with ingame law enforcement, thus helping the admin keep law and order between players and helping to weed out any troublemakers and cheaters.
Here is the basic setup. Theoretically, server admins can go to the FCIS website and contact one of the current commanding officers requesting assistance. The server admin then briefs the CO on the situation that has created the need for the FCIS. The CO then chooses one of the special agents under his/her command and assigns them to the server belonging to the admin. The special agent (designated with the prefix "FCIS:S.A." then their name) then requests the type of ship and equipment that would be needed to complete the assignment from the admin and joins the server. While on assignment, the agent will answer to the server admin and to his/her CO. The agent will only have jurisdiction within the sector that the admin designates and will only have the authority that the admin grants. Obviously, the special agent is not above the server rules set forth by the admin. If the admin feels the need to, they may kick the agent off the server and file a complaint to the CO. Once the assignment has been completed, the agent leaves the server and the admin has the option of deleting the agent's player files from their server (or whatever they need to do to remove the player from the server, I'm not sure how that works). The agent is then returned to standby status and awaits for assignment from his/her CO.
As of now, the only goal of the FCIS is to supply support for admins. However, I have toyed with the idea of agents role-playing as in game law enforcement, adding a new level of play for those players smuggling illegal goods who try to outsmart the NPC law enforcement officials within the game. But this level of play has yet to be decided upon.
I would like to know if any admin would be interested in having this kind of ingame agency support for their servers. If so, I will be more than happy to accomodate the request. However, if there is no support for it, then the subject can be dropped. Also, if there are any players who would be interested in becoming an Agent-for-Hire, then by all means let me know. It will take support from both admin and players to make this kind of thing work. I know it all sounds complicated at the moment, but with time and support it could work. Please let me know what you all think.
