Should be in multiplayer forum....
But hey...
Erm, I can recomend elite as a fairly friendly server, but it can get a bit busy at peak times.

I heard Hunters Association 2 is good.

Does one really have to start all over in multiplayer? Is there a way to load my hard-earned single player character?

Nope, you can't keep your single-player characters It's frustrating, sure, but it's like taking a step up. From SP you should have gained some decent flying skills. Just use SP as a way of identifying good trade routes, stuff like that. You can then apply that knowledge to your MP game. When picking your server, try to pick one that is on 24/7, and that is also fairly reliable. There's nothing worse than building up a good character, only to lose it when the server goes down...

when playing multiplayer, you have to start from scratch on every server you play on, as all chars are stored on the server
