Having 2 Chars online

Is it possible to have 2 of your own characters online to transfer cash? I read somewhere about User Switching and I tried it but my connection disconnects on the switch. Any advice? Coz I'm playing on a Victor MP Mod server and buying torpedoes to drop ain't a good way to transfer cash.

ask your friends to do it for you

you need windows XP and have to have two user accounts. When you select log off from one desktop a pop-up window should give you two options. log off or fast user switch. By using the FUS freelancer will remain running and allows you to log into the the server with a second char. Providing the game gives you a different ID code on the second desktop.

@DaVoid

Sorry, this doesn't work. Nice thought though! Switching users doesn't "release" the active user from the server. When an attempt is made to connect with the other user, you get an error message saying this account is already in use.

Regardless of the user, the machine is the same and the number that the software generates will be the same.

Actually, when u create another user and use freelancer on it, it automatically generates ANOTHER ID for u. That I can do but the problem I'm having is that my connection disconnects upon switching users. Any advice on how to keep it alive throughout the whole while?

Not exactly. you may have another ID generated BUT it's being generated FROM the same machine and the server knows that. Read my post above and just believe me. This was attempted numerous way in beta.

The only way to pull this off is to have a secondary CD in a second CD-ROM drive to make the server believe it's really a second machine, not just a second user trying to connect. Too complicat3ed and a bit on the expensive side for most people.

Funny thing, I could create 2 IDs and use both to access the same server as different users. Its just that my connection disconnects. I remember seeing a message from the server saying my first char had departed when my second logged in.

And Stinger, I too know it works. Although I was never ever to get it to work for myself.(My XP never generated a new ID). My friend Cr4fty frequently used the user switching to create storage chars for himself.

2 PC's on a LAN routed with seperate IP's via a router in multi NAT and it will work. That is how people get it to work, expensive as not all routers do multi NAT, so costs more than your avgerage router. Plus the fact you need another PC.

That's a lot of investment to have multiple characters if you as me. Too much to prove it can be done in my book.

Post Wed Feb 04, 2004 7:13 pm

Actually Stinger it does work. I've done it myself many times (not on the server I'm currently playing on though). I know many people who have used it to trade items between their characters from different accounts.

Okay, I'll submit that it's being done by people, not a problem and I humbly apologise for providing what appears to clearly be mis-information. But instead of coming on here and refuting my claim of "that's impossible" (mainly because I tried like hell for about a year to make it work and failed...a personal acount), how about explaining exactly how it's being done on one computer . If the response turns out to be as debilitating to the MP experience as the clocking mod was, I'll delete the contents shortly after the post.

When someone says "you're wrong it works" and stops there without any explanation that rediculous. Put up or shut up is what they usually say at this point in the debate.

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly but you want me to explain how I do it? Someone pretty much already said how and I'm sure its been discussed dozens of times in other threads.

You are right, you are not understanding me correctly. No where is this explained in this thread, only inferred. And dozens of other threads? A quick forum search revealed nothing to me or I wouldn't have asked in the first place.

Edit: notice the bold "on one computer" phrase in my previous post. Pinger explained how it can be done on more than opne computer, that's really a no brainer due to the different MAC addresses anyway.

Fine, then I'll spill the beans. The only reason I didn't do it sooner was because this can lead to cheating and people using multiple identites on a server without the admin actually having knowledge of it (unless they test the IP's). Stinger, if you think this will have a bad effect, please delete the following portion of the post.

Keep in mind this only works with Windows XP. All you have to do to get a second (really infinite number) of accounts is to create multiple log-ins. Each log in you create will AUTOMATICALLY create a new multiplayer ID for Freelancer when you try MP for the first time. You can then log on to a server with both accounts simply by switching between log-ins on Windows.
