upgrade your DirectX drivers. Be sure that you actually upgraded and some files being copied.

i had the same problem when i first got freelancer. i tryed averything and couldnt get it to work. i read the microsoft fag and it said to chech that all the ports freelancer needs are open. i mailed my isp and told them to see if the had the ports blocked. i never got any reply (my isp never seems to reply) but freelacner did work a few days after that
