how do u run a lan server on ur own machine and play on it?

so far ive been able to run a server and load freelancer but not be able to see the game..
i laned a few weeks ago and didnt have the same problem..as we had 3-4 of us on the server (incling me as i was running the server as well on my machine)

any idears?
