Multiplayer character numbers.

Is there any way I can have more than 5 characters on a server?

only by having a second installation of fl on your pc or a second pc with it on it
why more than 5 ?

Why more than 5? Just found that 5 aren’t enough, (call me greedy if you wish), already have 5 characters on a server and need one more to test some low-level stuff, don’t want to lose any of the others.

Can the second installation be the same account number?

How is it done, the daft thing just asks me if I want to reinstall, (in the same directory), or uninstall

I have managed to make 6 or more characters on a 1.1 server. BUT it causes issues for the admin and FLserver. These make it unviable, one as FLserver cant see all the characters online, two as they cant be seen by FLserver then they can't be kicked or banned.

Which is why FLSO detects player folders with 6 or more .FL files now.

it would need to be a seperate id in theory this could also be achieved with one installation and just change the id to access your other chars
bottom line dont bother . this or any other way is more hassle than its worth
if you want to experiment try another server for that its a lot easier

I use my wife's PC. She has her own FL disk and plays on non-PvP servers.

VERY handy for storage characters, and simple experiments!

Pinger, I remember you saying there were problems but I decided to do it on my server (6 characters) and I have no problems. I do get JoeBoomz' FLSO error messages but I can see all the characters in a patched flserver account list, see them all in FLSO, able to ban them at will (when I edit the character in FLSO to move characters from one place to another). I have seen no detrimental effects or indication it is unviable. It is NOT something I am extending to other players on the server as it is a pain moving, renaming, finding file and directory names. Nevertheless I need it for the server duties, testing editing tools, alter egos, etc.

I've not tried it since reducing my servers player count. The ban/kick issue might have been due to the numbers involved when I did try it. Then my server had 3600+ player folders and about 4500 player files, so might have been the codec timing bug surfacing.

So might try it again. As for finding the folders, when I was betaing the old character editor the first thing I did was take a note of my characters folder and the other admins. As I backed those up daily, just incase of a attempted server character hack by someone banned. If it is safe to use, then I'll probablly rebuild a few more Unknown characters.
