your firewall could be blocking the ports needed for MP
Turn FW once to check. then if everything works make "allow" rules for 1800 - 2400 ports.
Update your Directx ANYWAY!

I have broadband, I have my own server, my own modem, no networked PC's, latest update for FL, and a virus checker and a firewall.

the latest update for FL may be the culprit , it is mainly a server patch and not a client patch , you are better off removing it (which basically means re-installing it from scratch)

Firewall , does it allow access for FL ? simplest way to check is to turn it off , see if you connect , if you do , it is the fire wall , disconnect , configure it and start it up again

Virus checker has no impact unless you run a lowend system then you are better off turning it of while you are playing to reduce overhead on your system

Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card , sound card and install Directx 9.0b (mentioned somewhere already)

well i havnt changed a thing on my comp except video card. which shoudlnt interfear with internet. and i cant connect.

uhm not true ,

Does your video card use an IRQ ? and do you connect with a network card ? if so they may conflict (just to name one very simple problem)

anyhow do a check of your system and see if there are any conflicts with your hardware (memory addresses,IRQ's DMA's)

Ok, just for a second, pretend I am an absolute n00b, and I have no idea how to change my IRQ. I have DirectX 9 and my firewall lets .exe files through (with my concent). What else could I do, and...

Should this be in the Technical Forum?

UM you do have a multiplayer ID right?

Yeah a friend of mine has got exactly the same problem. As soon a we fix it (Yes I'm positive we will ) I'll post the solution here.
But untill then... It sux 'cos I have to play on my own (that friend is the only other guy I know irl that has freelancer).

i had the same problem and then one days mt MP suddenly worked. all i did was ask my internet provider if they didn't block some of the ports freelancer needs. a week or 2 later Freelancer MP worked

Yeah guys, thanks for the info, I'll try out that idea, but if you could give me a definate answer soon, then I would apperciate so much, and blow you up in cyber-space when I finally get on. (The Americans would call this kind of speech 'Trash Talk' but then what do they know.)
