dealing with mine fields

n00b here...

how do y'all deal with mine fields? the ones that you are going through and as you pass a mine it comes up behind you and blows your ass to bits?

I have a fighter with wing mounts (it's the thunderbird mod). When these mines blow me up, I lose all the weaps on the wings. This is BAD JUJU I NO LIKE.

Being a n00b, I'm stumped. Any ideas please? Thanks.

In a non modded game I fly around them, so guess your best asking the mod author if he/she thought about mines for the size of the ship. Might just be Too big to fly through a mine field.

the problem is sometimes I get in one before I know I'm in one. Then I'm dead. Why are minefields not marked on the map or something?

The ship does't seem so wide to me really. It's like the mines chase me down man. Maybe I should try it in a non-modded fighter though. I suspect I'll have the same prob though.

If you get into a dogfight with someone, and you have wing mounted weaps, and he blows your a$$ up (never happens I'm sure), do you lose your wing mounted weaps? This is more the question I meant to ask (dumb n00b)

Thanks.

Use a light figher. Try not to even get close to the mines. If your aim is bad, then you're just screwed. You can always stop your ship and recharge your shields if they're taken out by mines.

The mines in the minefields don't home, but they have a proximity destruct (i.e. you don't have to make physical contact for them to blow up). They may not be marked, but you should get to know where they are from experience (good or bad, lol), and you can see them visually for several seconds before entering them, even at cruise speed.

I recently lost a wing (and weapons) on a mission. THEN I was killed by a player coming into dock...

...when I respawned the weapons were back, but I seem to remember losing weapons in a different situation... maybe it was single player... can't remember.

And yes, the mines in the mine fields do NOT move and are proximity triggered. My only tactic for evading them in a LF or HF is to slow to normal speed and try my best to avoid them, using regular manuevering and strafe keys, stopping to recharge when my shields fail.

The BEST tactic is to get a VHF or some other ornery ship with a tough hull. I can fly straight through gas-pocket fields with my Eagle, and my hull can take 5-6 mine detonations without problem. If you lose shields STOP and let them recharge.

Other than that, mines just suck.

lol.

Not too close to mine/gas-pocket, I seen them fire again!
Mines truely suck in MP with lag, much more deadly than SP

I normally don't have that much trouble with mines at all. But lag can kill you in a heart beat and I have lost a load of weapons that way. I changed characters once and was in a gas field. I lived for 1 second and never had a chance to move.

Sometimes you do not automatically repair or regain weapons after being killed. I had a hair of hull left on Elite one time. I kept getting myself killed and respawning, but I was still burning. I had to use bots or pay for repairs. [WPKozuka, One more possibility is losing weapons during a previous fight and docking without ever noticing. Then you may have noticed after the next mission. I have done that.

Out of all the mine fields, the zone 21 one is the worst. 1 mine can take out a class 10 shield, and the next your entire hull, even in a Titan.

Is that a pocket of volatile gas?
No, that's a jumphole...
