Piercing an Ubershield

Ok for one I do not know if i should place this here or in the Modding forums , i decided on placing it here since it is an issue that concerns all MP players and is getting out of hand real fast , and nobody seems to be willing or able to supply the solution for it

ubershields are a nuisance and can be dealt with in two ways , either have the serveradmin install lancerguard on the the server or make one small modification to one file rendering the ubershield useless

personally i prefer that a server admin installs lancerguard since it will make things a lot easier on all players , however since this is not the case , below you will find a way to quickly render an ubershield useless


locate the file ST_equip.ini
unpack it with BINI (to be had here on this board) if it is not already unpacked
open the file with notepad or a similar editor
search for heavy_fighter_invulnerable_shield
replace the following lines

regeneration_rate =100000
max_capacity =1000000
toughness =10000

with the following

regeneration_rate = 1
max_capacity = 0
toughness = 0

and the result will be that everybody toting an ubershield as produced by FLMM or manual modding will have NO SHIELD making them easy pickings even if you are only equiped with standard guns.

The main advantage of this is that you do not need in any way or form increase the fire rate of your guns (which causes tremendous lag) and that is it hardly a mod any admin can object to since it only makes their servers less prone to crashing and abuse

Feel free to transfer this message to other places, and to head off any requests NO i am not going to turn this into a flmm mod , it is just not worth the trouble to do so.

As corwin02 stated this IS NOT A MOD in the terms of modds. It just makes it so anyone who has an uber sheild mod on, easier to kill.

Just think about it, Why do u want it made into a mod just do as corwin has posted and all will work

Little adendum to the above post , since i noticed that most PKers now switched to the so called 'light uber'

just look for

light_fighter_invulnerable_shield in ST_equip (it is right above the heavy uber)

and change the same settings
regeneration_rate = 1000000
max_capacity = 1000000
toughness = 10000.000000

to

regeneration_rate = 1
max_capacity = 0
toughness = 0

Sorry to point out the obvious for those who already did this

I agree, Corwin... I've already made that modification to my system for playing in the Calgary server. It makes a HUGE difference. Uber shield users are easy to, ahem, negotiate with when they, according to your readings, have NO SHIELDS! LOL... for every cheat, there will always be a countermeasure.

Yep its server side only, players making the change won't beat a uber shield unless they have a weapon that beats the regen rate which in it's self is a cheat. So unless the admin gives a ****, report any you see and get them banned.

would a patched server kick someone for doing this? because my biggest concern is that people will start doing this for the lvl10 positron shield and other very common shield.

What about if someone decides to change the vallues of the NORMAL and LEGIT shield vallues?? Wouldn't it completely nullify the use of shields?

It is not server side, you can't increase the maximum of the shields , that is regulated server side , however you can make shields less , which is exactly what i am doing here.

If you apply these modifications you will not need any high refire rated guns , any gun will just hit the hull of the ship completely ignoring the shield

yep it would , but it works two ways , if you nullify the shields, you will not have any shields either , secondly it does take some time to do them all (about 30 minutes )
