The Storage Character Bug!!!

The Storage Character Bug.

Symptoms:
1-Games crashes when changing characters.
2-All characters appear to be wiped out.
3-You can not create a new character.

Suspected Cause:
1-Too many items in your storage character.
2-New large deposit is too big.

Fixes:
1. Best alternative is to have your character backup files reinstalled by the admin.
2. Figure out how to change your MP ID.
3. Abandon the server and play elsewhere. (stinky)

Avoid methods:
1. Keep under 200 items. I know that 165 items worked fine. 256 may be the limit.
2. Keep more than one storage character if you need more space.
4. Make smaller incremental deposits.
3. Or, just don't keep a storage chracter.

I discovered this bug while playing on Browclops. I had a huge storage chracter with tons of classified weapons, along with different set-ups for freighters and fighters. I made a fairly large deposit to it, which probably brought me to over 300 items in the one character. I tractored the stuff into my storage, but when I tried to change characters back to my fighter, the game crashed.
I had no idea why this happened, until I did it again. The same exact thing happened, except this time I could still chat, but I was at the Main Menu screen. Kinda Wierd.

I am sure this threadwill help bunches of people if they see it. Check out these examples.

Yup, gotten this bug before. My storage character with well over 80 weapons disappeared when I was given about 30 weapons in a few short minutes by a retiring clan mate. Server admin had to delete the character for me before I could log in again.

80 + 30 is only 110 items. I know for sure that over 165 works fine because the last time I counted, I had 165 and since then made a few deposits. But, when I made a big deposit, I had the character corruption.

Maybe it is not caused by the total number of items on one character, but by the size of the new deposit. I should test this by making my a server on my computer. If others could check this out too and let us know of your experience, we could pinpoint the cause better.

Okay, I'm rather new to MP. HOW do you use a Storage Character?

Definition of one is easy, but how would I transfer credits? Also, don't items left adrift decay when no one is active in the same area?

Or are you talking about having someone help you transfer stuff? If so, what did you mean by "tractoring"?

Dark Wolfen,

See this thread on Storage Characters that I created in the spoiler forum.

I have a MP storage character. I evidently stored too many items on him, causing my files to be come corrupted. The server admin was gracious enought to reset my accounts. The first thing I did once I got online after the reset was set up a second storage character. I put half my goods into this second character.

Now, when I attempt to connect to the server, the following sequence happens:

Select Server, "Loading", attempt to pull character selection menu, "Your connection to the server has been lost..." - then I can't even select the server again.

I know that the server is up, I see a ping rate (80-110) and people online using it. My question is - Are we limited to a set number of items PER CHARACTER or per person?

Any help would be gratifying. I will also be posting this in the Server and Multiplayer forums as I think it is applicable in all 3.

To make matters stinkier - I sold a bunch of stuff. A butt load of stuff. It hurt selling it off the the stupid game when I could have made more on people, and still have been well below the game's going rate.

I am going to be splitting the items once again, as the Admin restarted me. I will also be putting a LARGE deposit into escrow with someone I trust so that if this happens again, I can just delete and start over - GRRR...I hate that, but it isnt fair to the admin to have to reset me because I am greedy....lol.

You mentioned changing my MP id. How do I do that?

Thanks!

Ok - got an email from the Admin stating he reset my accounts. Still cant connect. Unistalled/reinstalled FL, got the SAME mp acct ID #, still cant connect. Willing to lose EVERYTHING on all servers to start from scratch and get it going again.

Anyone know how to get a new MP ID#?

Install the game on another computer to get a new one.

A VERY FRUSTRATED CEASAR HERE!

I can't connect. Brief version:

Storage Bug, Mordred resets accounts, transferred some to another char, now no connect. Process: Select Browclopsia, "LOADING", and when the Character selection screen begins to come up, "Connection Lost". Attempts after that, without restarting, "Please Wait..." & "Connection Lost...".

Attempted Solutions: Complete uninstall/reinstall Freelancer, defragged harddrive, scanned for viruses, Begged for second reset of accounts (done! thanks Mordred), tested other servers (connected to all 1st attempt, no worries).

Questions: Is this a typical response to a banned person? Is it possible to get a DIFFERENT MP ID # (freelancer assigned the same one after reinstalling)? Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue, and if so, what corrections were made?

Thanks!

It is possible that he didn't get an old enough backup. He may have backed up your files after they were already corrupted. If he can get an older backup, then ask him to put those in. It is most likely that your character is still corrupted.
