Checking for interest in a new clan
I've been toying with the idea of starting a new Freelancer clan on the 24/7 Seattle Based server. I already own web space and forums, what I've been working on is clan objectives. The name of the clan would be Journeyman Freight & Privateers or Clan/JFP.
Clan/JFP got it's start in the first person shooter game Ghost Recon by Red Storm Entertainment. We've since had a fall off of interest in that game, so I'm considering opening the clan up to play FL as well. At this time I am the only member that plays FL. However, I believe Clan/JFP could provide a fun and welcoming organization for gamers with similar interests to meet and have a good time.
Clan Objectives:
- To provide a mature organization for gamer to enjoy a team-based approach to the game
- To allow zero tolerance for modding/cheating/hacking
- To include members of any age, provided they are mature individuals
- To organize escorted cargo runs, piracy (vs A.I.), and system policing
- To provide protection against dock camping and excessive player killing of our members
In my experience so far, what Freelancer multiplayer is missing is a chance to play in a team-based environment. The designers did not include any in-game mechanism for team play (hence the name "Freelancer" ) other than being able to group together to perform the limited missions offered by the game.
It would be the intention of Clan/JFP to provide a richer FL experience by artificially adding team-based missions to the game. Such missions could include: system patrols, piracy of non-player character transports, freighters, and cargo depots, and escorted cargo runs. All of these activities would be profit-sharing ventures where the players involved would divide the proceeds among the participants manually.
In addition, Clan/JFP members would answer any distress call from other members. If a member finds him or herself trapped on a base with a dock-camper outside, he or she could send out a distress message to all other members who would be obligated to drop everything and come to the aid of their fellow.
Excessive PK-ing by non-members on our members would be similarly viewed as an emergency situation. By "excessive", I mean when a non-member kills one of our members repeatedly for no apparent reason. However, as we play on PvP servers, a certain amount of PvP loss is expected and should be tolerated.
Clan/JFP would only admit mature players into it's ranks. I'm leery of setting age limits because I have known 16 year-olds with more maturity and a better attitude then some 30 year-olds. By maturity I mean being able to communicate without excessive expletives and displaying respect for others, the rules of the server, and the rules of the clan.
Cheaters, modders (who mod on un-modded servers in order to obtain an advantage in multiplay), and hackers would not be tolerated by Clan/JFP. Members who engage in these activities would be removed from the roster immediately. Furthermore, non-members who engaged in these activities on non-modded servers would become the targets of offensive missions launched by our clan.
The goal of Clan/JFP would not be to dominate a section of space nor would it be to enrich our recruits without them having earned their advancement. Something given has no value. The goal would be to advance our members through working together towards a common goal and earning a portion of the proceeds.
In-game communication would most probably be through a free voice communication program like Ventrilo or Team Speak.
These are the thoughts I've had so far. Like I said, Clan/JFP is just getting it's start in FL. This is an opportunity for folks without a clan to get in on the ground level of a new organization and help form its identity. If you are interested or have any questions, please reply here, talk to me on the 24/7 Seattle Based server, email me at [email protected], or you can reach me on ICQ (165711123). And feel free to visit our forums and introduce yourself. The clan website for FL is still under construction.
Thank you.
