a few questions

Hi , I am pretty new here and I have some questions, If
they have been answered begore i apologise,

I want to start to run a server, does a
PII 400 mhz be sufficient?(I have an ADSL connection)
What I also want to know, does the game have to be on
when the server is on, or does the server also work on it`s own?
If it works on it`s own, can i play the game from another computer so that
the server computer is just the server and the other computer
is just the game computer.
These computers are both connected to a router/switch
and then they are connected to an adsl modem.

(I know that I probably need to set some things in the
router/swirch considering ports etc. but before I really
go into that I would like to know if this setup would work)

1. Its fairly CPU intensive so you could host a private friends server, but not public.
2. no mention of ram, it likes lots of it, 256 minimum ideally 512 or better if under win2k or XP
3. OS 98se/ 2k or XP? dont even think of hosting it using 98se wont ever be stable enough.
4. ADSL upload speed? if 256 or lower the best you will ever get out if it with little lag is 10 people, so faster the upload better

1. Why is it cpu intensive? I mean I am only running the server on it, not
the game?
2. 1X128 and 1X256 so that makes 384 Mb ;7) and under XP/home
3. wel, under XP/home, 128Kbit/s upload and 768 Kbit/s download
and 98 couldn`t even keep my adsl connection stable ;o)
4. wel I wanted to host a small server so that isn`t a problem.

well I could run the server together( on my PIV 2.53 1x256 and 1X 512
makes 768 Mb) with the game, but wouldn`t the game slow the server down
a lot? And that doesn`t change my upload speed.;o(

Running both the client and the server on the same machine is not recommended. (See README file)

Your setup will not hold many players simply because the server is CPU hog. Why? Well, it's takes a lot to make those thousands of calculations per second.

I take it a 56k server would be out of the question?

okay thanks for the info, I appreciate it.this means that I have to use somebody elses server (which I am grateful they run) but it also means that when they decide it is enough it also means I loose all the gametime and stuff I put into
it. So bascally Ioose hours of gameplay.

Couldn`t they have made a better system where you keep your progress
yourself and that it is activated when you logon to another server?
(I know, chesater sensitive, but loosing all those hours of progress
is a bummer too)
Because this system s*cks.I wrote it to them, but as ussual, no reply.
