Microsoft No Mod Server patch.

I was working on a problem with my Windows ME machine with the game techs at microsoft and asked them about mod's causing server lag and stuff.

This is their reply:

Ed, I would like to let you know that the servers are not hosted by Microsoft and hence we cannot completely prevent usage of Mods in the game. I do agree that these objects cause issues like lag in the game and I would really appreciate if you could post the suggestion at [email protected] so that the game administrators have tools to prevent usage of Mods. And we would need to know that these objects cannot cause the issue that we are encountering.

So thats it folks. Get those emails out today.

In the email I sent, I made the statement that Bill Gates could probably whip one up on a napkin, over coffee, in the break room. lol

I've seen that contact address before on a minor FL fan site, so is it legit or not? I'm guessing not as the addy used during the beta patch test has never promted a reply from MS.

Subject: Freelancer Mod free servers

I'm sure that you are aware of the problem mods are causing the server administrators that are trying to run clean servers. Go to lancerreactor.com and in a few minuets you can be piloting anything from the U.S.S.Enterprise to the starting starflier with class10 like guns and super quick engines.

There are many places for these mods to be used. Many servers are set up to cater to their style of play. More it seems than for the type of player that I am, that enjoys just playing the standard game.

How's chances of getting help for the admins of these types of servers?

I bet ya Mr. Gates himself could whip up something in the break room over coffee.

From what I've seen a lot of these mods work with the INI files for ship statistics. Couldn't you put a filter of sorts on the Admin console to keep out any but standard game INI files?

It is important to your customers. A couple of these modders can lag down a server to the point where you can't do anything. In my case every time I encounter, lets say, a big blue Nomad Battleship a modding player is running my video card freaks out and causes an error in dxdiag which then crashes the game back to the desktop. (Working with game tech on this problem)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do something to keep the mods out of the servers where they are not wanted.

So are we going to debate if its a real address or not? Or are we going to bury them in email asking for the no mod server patch?

Admins of no mod servers should be flashing that address across the console asking their players to write. Raptor just started before his server went down.

Come on everybody, I got run down by a Nomad battleship while coming out of the Manhattan docking ring last night. We have got to get together on this.
