Weapon drops on Elite

Something strange here...

I have killed about 400 xenos at Ouray with my character, to appease some of the corps that hate me so badly, and I only got ONE Advanced Scorpion. Also, when starting out I killed xenos to get the Adv. Scorp for my Dagger... and despite spending quite a bit of time killing... I got NONE.

... I was using decent guns, and killing them pretty quickly so as not to destroy the guns, and I focused on the StarTracker ships, which carry the guns I so desired.... but to no avail.

Also.. Last night I spent a couple of hours killing nomads trying for blasters. I spent time at each unknown system, and probably killed about 100. For all my trouble I got ONE blaster and ONE cannon.

Has Elite server altered the frequencly of weapon drops? Sure seems like it.

Are you sure you got that drop at Ouray? Xeno ships flying there may not carry it.
There are areas where Xenos fly better ships.

One of my starting tactics I have used several times is to buy a Dagger and get Advanced Scorpions by hanging out at Ouray and killing Startrackers. Starfliers drop the class 2 scorp, and Startrackers will drop Adv. Scorpions. Sometimes it takes a couple dozen to get a pair... but I killed HUNDREDS of xenos and not one single drop.

Also your replies don't explain the nomad stinginess. I have heard that 1 in 8 nomads or so will drop a weapon..... not 1 in 50!

Perhaps it was just not my day, as it seems no one else has noticed this. I will try again soon and see what happens.

That would mean there's some sort of server mod on Elite, and anyone who frequents that server will tell you, hell will freeze over before a mod gets the okay on Elite.

We tried a couple and all killed the performance. We've learned our lesson.

It has been commonly accepted that Nomad weapons drop with a much greater frequency when the pilot is over level 32. I have noticed this tendancy myself, as on one occasion the level of my fighter dropped a level while flying due to nanobot/battery usage and repair costs on Primus. When that happened I ceased getting nomad weapons, and was forced to do a quick mission to get my level up again.

I suspect the same kind of criteria exists with Xenos (albeit a lower level requirement), but I'm not very sure. Anyway, I hope this helped.

Gung Ho.. I think you're on to something. Since you mention it I now recall hearing something similiar...

... and prior to leaving on my Nomad excursion I gave ALL my cash to a friend for ship purchase... leaving me at level 29. So it fits...

Perhaps with the xenos I was too high level? I was killing them by the hundreds to try and balance out my terribly inconvenient corporate rep. Maybe the level requirement is a 'bracket', with high and low levels for some instances?

...Stinger I am well aware (and extatic) about Elite's anti mod policy, and support it in any meager way I can... but Browclops was similiar in policy, yet altered the starting cash (which I thought was a good idea). I see no reason to call that a 'mod', but I spose one could if one wanted. Either way, I think my question is answered.

Thx

Begining to think it might just be the signs of a server needing a full reinstall. For the last week while watching the noobs in NY, the NPC's have been acting oddly. Normally friendly factions attacking each other, at first I thought it was the usual, a high lvl VHF playing with NPC's but none about.

So maybe time for a reinstall as I will be asking for my server to be at the end of the week if this continues.

personally ive found the guns dropping on elite fairly normal in frequency
the usual factors to how many and what drop seem to apply
