Will Elite be closed forever?

I noticed that Elite has account creation disabled. SInce I just lost my account (apparently irretrievably) due to a hard drive crash that removed my only record of my number (stupid, I know) I would at least like the opportunity to start over. Are new players no longer welcome? If so, why?

I think it has to do with the # of ppl getting kicked for cheating.

New account creation was turned off because of some "yahoo" that was abusing and hammering the server. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to ensure server stability. Sometimes that means dealing with children like that and having our action affect the playing of others. Not long term, but short fixes is all.
