Isn''t bigger better?!?!?!?

Want help in running a persistent server? Want to setup a gaming session? Look no further!

Isn''t bigger better?!?!?!?

I don't know if I'm missing something but WHY WHY WHY do people only use small servers in MP?

I've just started playing and can't understand why so few people use the 128 player servers. Surely this defeats the object of MULTIplayer. Wouldn't it be more fun if we all played in the same universe? Isn't the idea to get different groups of players who can work together or work against each other?

If anyone agrees with me I'll be hanging about in Firefly 24/7...

Because there isn't a server and its connection that can handle more than 50. I know a couple of UK ISP's that tried to host a 50 player server with a decent server setup and its simply to laggy. 32 is about the limit, but see Elite is trying 36 just now.

This is why Microsoft should have set something up on their uber Gaming Zone servers. For crying out loud, you can still go to the Gaming Zone and play Quake 2 (you know, one of those late twentieth-century titles), but they didn't make a little room for one of the best-selling space sim/RPG games in recent history.

And THAT, folks, is my own personal "WHY WHY WHY."

people like to be able to undock without lagging off the server is why why why. there's no way microsoft would ever set up any freelancer servers and even if they did there would be some stupid fee just to use them. personally i thought elite felt crowded at 30

Large servers are nice in theory but in practice they're crap.

The server software isn't stable or effiicient enough to support large servers; I doubt there is a WIntel server capable of handling more than around 50 players and the server becomes horrendously unstable and laggy somewhere around the 30 mark.

It's crazy that Microsoft have released a game that has so much potential in MP, and yet nodobby can take advantage of it.

It's like inviting all your mates to a brewery and just passing round one bottle.

We neeeeed a 500+ server!

I'm going to write to Nelson Mandela. Maybe if I sign David Beckham I'll get the necessary publicity.
