*** JOB BOARD ***

How about a header in this forum for a 'job board', like this:

JOB-ELITE: Frobozz Freight Grand Opening

I think I'll be the first...

So I'm flying around Elite this weekend in my Mule, just observing and filling my Nav Map,
and I see all these factions and I wonder: gee it would be great if there was a list to
look up these guys; see what they do, where their base is, membership roster/requirements,
Allies/Enemies list, etc... etc...

It'd be great if clans posted such things on this forum & bumped them regular.

So I go into the bar in Crete, and I think... Boy, DA blew it here. Why can't I see other
players here? a mini chat room? Trivial code, really.

Then I think, it'd be great if I could post to the job board! This could get unwieldy, so
the server would have to delete them after 24-48 hrs or so, and there would be no 'accept'.
Still, for home bases of clans this would work. Imagine going in and seeing MP bar jobs.

Again, this forum could partially fulfill this function, a 'job board' header, like this:

JOB-ELITE: Frobozz Freight Grand Opening

I think I'll be the first...

I agree with you. The lack of MP job-board is a major disappointment in FL. I applaud what you're doing and wish you the best of luck in your business venture!

I thenk this is a good ider. But i mysalff have stated to kill for money it depends on the level thay whont killed are level 0-10 $100,000 11-15 $150,000 16-25 $1,000,000 level 26-38 $4,000,000,000 with the pach level 39-45 10 mill 46+ 50,000,000 so as you see not just any player can ask me to kill someone no level 1 cold get me to kill a level 30+ dockcamper a level 38+ cant ask me to kill a level 0-10 ether

so as you see not every one is asking me to kill a trabull macker and im not baned for PKing other pepel balow a level i thenk is not aprobrite(god spelling is hard when you are a bad tiper at the age of 11)this is a much better way of doing things in my eyes

"god (sic) spelling is hard when you are a bad tiper at the age of 11"

Damn. When I was eleven all I had was the original Nintendo system. Life-Force and Contra were selling like crazy. In the way of PC games? Old portable Compaq with the tiny green monitor built right into the "tower." With Ultima 3 and 2400 AD (origin). Space Quest (Sierra) was pretty top-line for sci-fi.

When I was 11, they just released calculators. I used slide rules. Pong was next.

My first program was in Fortran... on Punch Cards

My first computer was a Sinclair kit... built it myself... 1k of memory.

My kid is 11, he plays FL too.

BTW, Frobozz was character from Dungeon, one of the 1st computer games. (AI experiment)

Our machines are networked but I can't get his Freelancer to join a server,
even one running on his own machine. It show up on the list, but fails to connect.
It sees my machine's server, but no connect. My FL sees his server, but won't connect.
My FL will connect to my server. Both FL's unmodded. Why will mine connect to the server
on my machine, but his won't on his machine?

Had the same problem during one install.

You need to install Direct X9 on his machine.
The game will run singleplayer with DX 8.1,
but you need DirectX 9 for the multiplayer.
(Did his DX install fail? That's what happened to me)

Just put the CD in and choose re-install,
and just the DX part. If that's not an option,
browse the CD and install it manually.

(Though I expect I shouldn't have to explain it
this extensively to a fellow vet , ya "old geezer"

PS: Isn't there a Frobozz in the Zork series, too?

Thanks Hikarr, that's what it is! It worked, so I never got back to it!

Yup. Zork was marketed Dungeon.

On other topic, since I didn't clarify this originally:

The format for the job board is-

JOB-SERVER: Description

For mine because it's on Elite it's-

JOB-ELITE: Frobozz Freight Grand Opening

Ah, confusing marketing renaming strikes again! =)

*still plays UFO: Enemy Unknown from time to time*
(For any amis, that'd be X-COM: Defender after
the marketing staff got their hands on it =)

I've played a ton of Zork games. I don't recall running into a Frobozz character. I do remember the companies. Love those games. Still play them actually.

Just had a screwy idea. I don't know if we've got l337 coders for FL in here, but if we do, they could try to make an addon or sumthing to add a MP job board in the game. Say there's a trader wanting escort from Manhattan to New Berlin. They add a job on the job board with cash paid out (by the tader) and wait until someone/group come along and accpet the mission. They then go off on the mission. Once they get to their destination, the program forces the trader to pay the ppl involved in the mission. In this type of mission you cannot invite other ppl to join your group so the trader ends up going bust when he has to pay 5 ppl instead of 2. That'd make FL that little bit more interesting.

"Sure, as long as I don't get shot at, held at gunpoint, skewered by giant alien shapeshifters, have to jump out windows, fight off unfriendly nomad incubii"

In the original game, Frobozz the Wizard is the semi-mythological character who set up G.U.E.

(for u other ppl: Great Underground Empire)

I didn't understand why they don't let us see each other planetside. How hard could it be? And the job board would have been easier. Why are the smallest parts that do SO much for immersion left out? (Immersion? What am I talking about!? The planets are way off scale, etc)
