You can engine kill whenever needed; not just when in cruise. All it takes to engine kill is a slight boost/thrust in speed and the ability to press the "z" key.

Engine Kill isnt exactly what you expect it to be. When i first played, i thought it would bring me to a complete stop.

If it was labelled inertial drift mode, or real physics mode, then it would be easier to understand.

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.

Engine kill saved my ship once. Me and a friend were pi$$ing about on my server with the kill player turned on. I was almost gonna explode when he launched a toredo at me at close range. The engine kill was sooooo sweet! I simply turned up the thrust and pressed z and simply floated by amd managed to pin a few shots at both the torpedo and my friend. It gave me enough time to get the hell outta there. I'm glad he was playing as a Pirate and I was playing as the Navy. I got to the nearest battleship and he got blasted by it. No hard fellings tho.
