EVE-Online is everything players want Freelancer to be

The universe is comprised of over 5,000 solar systems connected by a series of jump gates. Every system is unique, with its own layout and contents, and the developers regularly adding more attractions.Freelancer is an action-shooter with role-playing overtones meant to be played for 25-50 hours, while EVE is firmly rooted in space travel simulation and is designed to be explored and lived in over the course of years. All players play together in the same server. The universe is persistent and players can construct buildings to defend and to be destroyed by another players.

Starting out in EVE is much like stepping out into the town of Seyda Neen in Morrowind. You're given only the essentials necessary to survive and some basic information, then you're poured out upon the wide, wild world to figure it all out for yourself. EVE doesn't have a static storyline like Morrowind does; instead, it plops the player in the midst of an overarching and ever-changing story that manifests itself in news bulletins and rumors.

There are over 60 ships for the various things to do while in EVE. Each culture has its own spacecraft for defense and hauling of cargo, and as you develop an idea of what you want to do, you can choose from frigates, cruisers, industrial ships, battleships and titans. These range in size from the personal craft with which you start the game all the way up to a battleship that can be 1,200 meters long. You can own multiple ships, but you can pilot only one at a time. Some ships are better suited as cargo vessels because they have larger holds and are therefore more efficient when doing mining runs, but there's generally a trade off in armament capabilities and speed. Conversely, attack ships have more speed and can mount powerful weapons, but sacrifice cargo room in the process. All ships can be customized with items purchased from the markets, such as shield boosters, afterburners, armor, missiles and powerful guns.

Except "FREE".

Yes, we must pay $10,90 monthly.
This is what we pay for a giant server that never is full, holding everyone together, always do back-up and always give us new ships, new worlds, new adventures and so on ...

Man,
I am from Brazil (south america), and I cant pay enough to play EVE, because 10 dollars are much money to us. So, I will never play it, and then this is not a cheap advertisement.
Dont be fool, pleaple can say what they want too, specially when they say the truth.

Salary here is about 80 dollars a month !!!!!!!!

LOL - I love these newbies I used to think I was alone in fighting advertisements in TLR forums - whether from X or EVE fanatics.

Post Wed Jun 11, 2003 11:28 pm

Ok, I give up.

This was not intended to be a advertisement.

My hope was to show people that there are games were we can see many improvements people want to freelancer.

Sorry if I was misunderstood.

And of course, I am not a newbiee at Freelancer. Look for my character at Elite server and you will see.

I dont know if you can see this, but this is not a advertisement because I will never have enough money to pay to play EVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard from some beta testers that it's just a huge "mining" game with crap combat.

Plus, who wants to buy a game, then pay a fee to play the game?

From what I've read I'm under the impression that EVE doesn't have a "proper" interactive combat system like Freelancer, but it's more "RPG-live" and skill/level based?

True/false?

I spent some time playing the Earth&Beyond 5 day demo, that is a RPG like space simulation, with skills and level up system. And the combat system is good, even so it isnot as good as the combat system of Freelancer.

A cool thing about Earth&Beyond is that we can configure the face and body of our character, and we can land and control/walk with this customized character and interact with other players while we are docked. Really nice.

Others things I think are very very cool about EVE and could be used by other games, like Freelancer, are:

7.1 How do corportions function?
There are two types of corporations, factions and organization. Factions are for players who wish to make formal alliances, but are not treated as an individual institution in the same way as companies. Players must form corporations to be able to buy planets or build stations.

7.2 How are corporations managed?
Players can choose their own method of control. The management system has been designed in such a way that while it is very flexible, it also provides the tools necessary to manage fairly large groups of players without excessive bureaucracy. Corporations can be created by anybody with enough money to do so. There is no limit to the number of players that can be in the same organization, nor are members limited by race. Details of the system will be released later.

7.3 Are wars possible between corporations?
Most definitely. One of the main purposes of corporations is to allow formal wars to be fought over resources, trade routes, strategic systems or simple pride. It will be possible to force one warring side to surrender to another, details of which will be released closer to the date of issue.
These kind of wars will be legal in the sense that players belonging to the two warring corporations can attack each other without impunity, without losses in security status.

7.4 What are the benefits of belonging to an corporation?
The main benefit of belonging to a faction is mutual protection. It gives players the option to band together, and factions are able to war on each other without it affecting the security status of the characters. Corporations are necessary if players want to build stations and factories or buy whole planets, or basically access any of the larger-scale strategic elements of the game.

bRydeR,

i think these FAQ topics are answers to your question:

5.1 How will combat be handled in the game?
Combat in EVE will not follow the standard "keep in sight, calculate lead" style of combat associated so far with most space simulators. Combat will be highly tactical, with high-tech, long-range weapons and a variety of defensive equipment and strategies employed. The interface will be mouse and keyboard related.

5.2 What will be the main tactical considerations in combat?
Players will have to equip their ship in keeping with their selected combat strategy, and choose those weapons best suited to their ship and character's skills. They will need to find a balance between offensive and defensive measures, and discover effective combinations of weapons and combat-related equipment. A wide freedom of choice will exist when selecting combat tactics and players can choose from a range of options including brute force, firepower, superior speed and range, defense and evasion, or stealth and cunning. Most importantly. players will have to be able to respond to the tactics employed by their adversary, and flexible tactics will be a key element.

5.3 What kind of weapons will be available?
Weapons will range from simple projectiles, to missiles, energy weapons, lasers and combat drones. Each class will have a variety of models and types, with their attendant advantages and drawbacks. In addition to standard weaponry there also will be a wide variety of specialized equipment such as tractor beams, gravity mines, energy drains and computer viruses, to name but a few.

5.4 What defensive methods will be available?
Basic defense will come in the form of physical and energy shields. To supplement these, players will be able to use many of their weapons in defensive mode to attack incoming missiles or combat drones. Players will also be able to use scramblers, jamming devices and a host of other equipment, which works to their defensive advantage.

5.5 What kind of combat related equipment will be available, apart from weapons?
A wide range of equipment will exist for gathering intelligence and information about other players and ships. Due to the strategic nature of combat, any kind of intelligence at all about the enemy can be vital. This applies as much to fitting out a ship to fight a known foe, as it does in the heat of combat. Electronic warfare will play a big part in combat, for instance you can jam your opponents weapons or ban him from warping away, or you can fend off your opponent’s attempts at doing the same to you.

i dont think M$ cares they probally think freelancer wasn't going anywhere. they relesed it just so they could have a hand in this genre. hell if they made freelancer with the features of E&B and EVE they would have to go to pay for play cause that means they got to be updating the universe constanly. like M$ really wants to put that much effort into something they don't belive in to much
if they belived they would do more for the game
