im with u man. the banning system sucks my ass in this game. some admins can abuse the power. some just dont know how to use it. in any case it should be a temp ban. not permanent. or atleast to the character not account.

lol well have'nt had any problems in servers with decent admins.. the patch probably caught you guys cheating and logged it or it was a newbie admin- the only ban that had me scratchin my head was in elite while back- helped some guy outside crete move 1.4 million and bunch of nomad guns to another character and he let me keep 400k for doin it.. came back later to find myself banned- even after 2 emails got nothing back about it so just said forget that server.. other bans were just newb admins like the seattle guy and galactic playground when I blew the admins wing off right as he was docking his titan.. he said- this servers had enough of you.. lol banned

I'm not going to jump on this bandwagon at all. If someone doesn't appreciate the fact that they've been banned then you have two options

1. Try to contact the server admin directly (if possible).
2. Move on to another server and call it a hard lesson learned.

If it's a good server, the rules and regs (and how to contact the admin with problems) should be publically available. We post in numerous places the rules and regs for the Elite server. No Cheatin' No Moddin' and no PK'ing in Liberty space. If you go against any of those simple rules then frankly, you have nothing to complain about if you're banned, period, end of discussion.

Temporary banning...heheyea right. Give them time enough to find a way NOT to get caught...sure...and we just fell of the turnip truck this morning. If you play with fire, expect to get burnt. The server admins (all of them) reserve the right to run their server like they choose. It is their hardware, their software and their bandwidth. Feel free to create your own server and run it exactly like you would like a server to be run. If this stance seems harsh then maybe you should run your own server for a while and see how much of a battle it really becomes to fight off the cheaters and modders who crash the dang servers by their very exisitence.

disclaimer - there are certainly going to be the rare exceptions to this, but they are VERY rare indeed on Elite.

what kinda lesson you talkin about when you did'nt do anything.. ah well woulda been nice to get a email back from you guys about it.. just cause you banned someone does'nt make you right- especially when they contact you about it twice and nothing.. it's cool though I'm playin and havin fun on some really good servers nowdays =

How does the banning system suck in this game? Personally I'd prefer being able to ban someone than sitting there for half an hour kicking them until they give up and try another account is better. IP banning would be nice although.

This is about the 30th post referencing the fact you don't know why you got banned from Elite. I'll check my archives and tell you ASAP, okay? Keep in mind that we take banning VERY seriously on Elite and don't do so unless there's a darn good reason/proof for it. But when the evidence is presented we're swift.

I vaguely remember the circumstances and it was for a legit reason, although I do not believe it was me that banned you. My archives will provide the facts, but it may take some time (day or two).

hehe this thread has a bad topic theres nothing illeagal against banning people...if an admin bans u just because he's bored or your better then him ...then theres nothing u can really do

well i play on raws server and he dont ban anyone, theres a rule on their NO MODS and u get idiots running them and people cheating.....theres sometimes i wish he would start banning people but he dont!!!

not saying this is u.but ive ran into way to many peeps that swear on there mothers grave they dont cheat "ask anyone" they say, i would never cheat,then i do a scan and wtf 7 nomad lasers, uber shield ,other times nomad balleship outside manhatten,i then say u f------ cheater u swore u dint cheat and here is the proof,then here it comes weve all heard it " i dont cheat im a modder" now in some games modding is indeed not cheating,in this game it almost always IS CHEATING get used to it peeps and for those of u that just cannot understand why u got banned for "NOT" cheating get used to it.

Listen i don't mod nor cheat, but i still got banned, and I don't even think it was be the host of the server. Anyone got any ideas?

You can only be banned by way of the server console. This means that direct access to the server machine is required. If you were banned, it was done by the host, or someone acting on their behalf as server admin.

Now, consider the fact that almost all of the FL servers are made possible by individuals. For every server out there, there is at least one person making a sacrifice to make it possible. Said sacrifice could be in the way of money (game hosting service), bandwidth, or sacrificing a computer. In return for this sacrifice, they get to run their server however they see fit. Seems quite fair to me, nothing illegal about it.

If you have an issue with being banned, why post it here? Posting a complaint here is basically pointless, considering there is no way to know if the host even reads this forum. You've got a much better chance of working it out by directly contacting the host or admin of that specific server. If the server you invested all this time on doesen't offer contact information, it's time to move on to another. I'd advise choosing one that does offer contact information, just in case something like this happens again.

I feel compelled to offer my two cents to this discussion. I have been running some game servers since '97. I have run into a multitude of defenses when people are accused of cheating. I prefer to be more reasonable when it comes to banning individuals from game servers. Prior to freelancer I probably imposed less than 12 bans on individuals. Since I have run freelancer servers I have banned nearly 40 individuals for cheating. Considering that I have nearly 6000 accounts I guess that isnt a lot of people , but still.... This game is very difficult to admin . More tools are needed to do it properly. I can understand the frustration that server admins feel. I do enjoy this game very much which would probably explain why I have added a second server and have posted my email address for people to contact me if need be. One thing that I have noticed when running these two servers is that there quite a large number of non-English speaking people that play ,and that possibly it could be a language barrier problem. yeah stinger was nice enough to actually send me the reason why I was banned off elite.. it was a case of mistaken identity- some reason they think I'm that guy cleaver (think he goes by cams on this message board).. guess this dood told them he was me in irc and was probably banned so they banned my account.. pretty weak but being an admin myself of big game servers back in the day I know the hassles of dealin with alot of players.. think cases like this would never happen if the server was able to ban ips- it's all good though cause I would've definitely been whoopin everyones ass in elite by now.. heard tassin (sp?) was a salad tosser and got to duel wardragon who was decent- but that's the only thing I remember in elite before gettin railroaded
