2 much space, 2 few players

My simple opinion after logging only about 50-60 hours of online play (several severs) is just that the space is WAY to big for servers which can only allow 20-30 players.

This game would and COULD be so so soooo much better for online play if there was one server or whatever required so that everyone could play the same universe. (I for one would be willing to pay a monthly subscription as in other online 'worlds') A whole new meaning would be given "Clan Wars" man... there would be some MAJOR clashes! what fun! and also it seems there just are "bad" people or people who roleplay bad people on every server. just imagine a universe with a few hundred online players, nearly every other ship another 'real' person

I think a entire economy would arise and "escorts" would be absolutely nessesary to fight off HUMAN lane hackers! sigh.... if only. Just to think what could be. Instead we are limited to an entire universe shared by only 20-30 players at a time.

I think now about one in every hundred or so spaceships you encounter on online play is another person (if you travel through 5-6 systems)

oh well i guess im just dreaming

The max the game is programmed for is 128 players for starters. that would be the absolute most you would ever see. Secondly the absolute best servers have the best hardware, T3 lines, etc. and they can't support more than 40 tops. The reason is that the game moves way too fast and the graphics are way too good. Especially when you get into an asteroid or debris field or a cloud of some sort. All these things tax the server systems. Third, the connection speed of the players can lag the whole universe. For instance if 15 people log on with 56k it will cause lag even to DSL or broadband players. Every server i think pretty much started at 128 but shaved it down some as they realized they couldn't support it. It would be nice to play with 128, but I'd rather play somewhere stable with less players

Subscriptions? man speak for yourself-lol i gotta eat!

u could just go play earth and beyond or EvE if you want to pay to play-lol

just my thoughts

looks like they left alot of things to be processed client side.. how good the graphics are don't mean anything to the server and peeps with slow connections (56k) causing lag is'nt true either- just rumors started by newbs who have no idea how a dedicated server works.. right now I'd have to say the best server I've seen up is calgary- whatever setup they got is workin.. 40 players and it does'nt lag.. the cheaters crash it alot but whatever they got runnin os wise and hardware/connection wise- it's kickin ass

If there was a server on a OC-768 (5GB/second!!!) line with something like 4 3ghz processors (with that hyperthreading and 800mhx bus nonsense)...

THAT would support 128 players (most likely)

not only i would like to see more players on a server but also, i would like to see the best of the best guns(nomads) get toned down because of its most damage rate and 0 energy drain makes this gun too uber, make some size 10 guns availible for some markets or have random wrecks respawn at random locations with size 10 guns... yeah the shield pulse guns should have more energy drain then the regular guns. the way microsoft/digital anvil made it.. looks way unbananceing to pvp. i can't imaging my self in a titan going head on against another vhf with nomad guns.. geez i only use 6 salamanca mk2s.. the wrecks appear to be all taken on some server which most of the people at my college play at.

so the solution is that i stopped playing fl multiplayer for a while..

I oppose the idea of so many players, i meen think about it. If there were about 5 players around you wherever you went, wut would you do? I dont know about you guys, but id shoot at them. If so many players were on one server it would be anarchy, and what comes with anarchy, heavy, heavy lag.

YEah? well somehow games like "sims online" or "Motorspeed Online" or even "everquest" support a amazing amount of players at the same time...
I'm not acting like I know the technical details of it, but a server with a massive amount of people.... would be yeah anarchy, and well the dynamics of the whole thing would be really interesting.

Prehaps it truly isnt' possible, but even 128 players would be a HELL of a lot better. I guess I just wish there was a online game able to support that many people but have the economy and conflict of Freelancer.

bottom line? 25 players for ..howmany systems? = too much empty space.
