Hammerhead better than eagle?

Can the hammerhead turn faster than the eagle? Thats probably the only consideration I have for choosing a VHF, turning.

Well assuming that you posted in the multi forum you will be playing online. Then the Eagle is the better. They both handle as well as each other. But the HH is limited by:

max lvl 9 weapons - ok thats enough for NPCs but not with most PvP
max lvl 9 shield - ditto

Eagle beats it other wise.

the max level 9 weapons are not the problem, aswell not the shild that much, what is the problem with the hammerhead are the level 8 weapon slots

On the contrary, Class 8 weapons are hardly a problem, and I find both the Centurion and Hammerhead to be equally feasable.

The Centurion has more armor and a smaller target area, and they turn the same.

Load either one up with 4 Kracken IIs and 2 Kracken Is, and you've got the ultimate ship. Of course, some of you might want to replace one of the Krackens with an adv debilitator...

I happen to have one of these maxed-out Centurions. Fun to fly vs other class 10 monsters.

I do not think that the HH being limited to lvl 9 guns will let an Eagle beat it in a 1vs1. The HH has very concentrated fire, so if you pull up behind someone, you can rip them apart. The Eagle, on the other hand, has its guns spread out. I think that it is absolutely horrible for taking out the criminal ships, because of the position of the guns. It is nearly impossible for you to hit a ship with all of your guns when you are behind it. Not the case with the HH. I like the HH better.

concentrated fire also means no spray and pray

In pvp you mainly use your guns to strip shields and a cannon ball to do the hull kill.
(the highter the speed the greater the damge so dont yell that it doesnt haven ehough strenght).

So if you load your hammerhead up whit 1 Tizona 1 cannon ball and 2 salmanca's mk II and 2 mk I's you'll a slightly smaller killing potention as the Eagel but you are faster.

This work's in theory but you wont survive a head on due to the lack of firepower.

Actually, the Hammerhead does turn better than the Eagle. If you really don't mind missing out on the zero energy Nomad weapons, a Hammerhead with Tizona del Cid's and torpedos will still give you enough firepower to beat the class 10 VHFs, provided you are good at dodging that is.

I think that the Hammerhead was totally underpowered - an interesting ship, it got me interested, but it just wasnt at the level of the other VHFs. I hope this is changed in the patch...

The data in the ini files has been compared:

The Hammerhead has the same mass/torque numbers as the Eagle. Any differences you've noted are purely perceived.

That said, it is nice to get most of the benefits of the Eagle for half the price. I'm a classical guns-only dogfighter, and I like fast, efficient, accurate guns. You're going to need high-efficiency for this ship, as it's quite underpowered...but nothing a good pilot can't deal with.

So screw the TDC, its slow AND a power hog. The Debilitator series is %33 more efficient, AND has 750m/s speed.

My favorite configuration for the Hammerhead:

2x Adv Debilitator
4x Kracken II

Of course, you might put in a Cannonball missile...

I've seen Default use this (see his previous post) configuration against many pilots and a few good pilots flying mostly Eagles with the typical weapons loadouts. He does remarkably well and wins (estimating here) 90% of his battles against 'pilots' and (estimating here) 50% against 'good pilots'.
There is normally a good deal of system chatter that borders on scoffing about the ship he is in, until it's over. Then comes the eerie silence Keep flying Default, you do the game and it's designers credit.

I've never seen this cat fly but, an eagle with 4 nomad blasters and 2 Kraken 2's would smoke any setup on a hammerhead.

If I have time I'll try out Default's setup, but I'd prefer Skyblast B's over the Kraken.

My experience with GMG ( photon ) weapons has been mixed.

The low-level ( Sunblast ) series fill a necessary hole in the game, since there aren't many desireable class 7 weapons that have class 6 counterparts.

But, they have the smallest projectile in the game. This makes them tend to miss, especially in spread-out weapon setups where the shots don't converge well ( IE: Level 10 fighters with wingtip gun mounts ).

Take a look at the Nomad Cannon. THAT is one damn huge projectile. The Kracken isn't quite that big, but it's larger than the Wyrm, and much bigger than the photon projectile.

This is absolutely key for pvp, you cannot anticipate where your enemy will move like an NPC. You cannot lead the shot and stream your high-fire-rate weapon. Instead, you get maybe 0.5-1 seconds each pass to line up your shot. Your hit rate depends on how fast your weapons refire, and how large your projectile is.

Higher fire rate weapons have two drawbacks:

1. In most PvP, you only get clean shots at your enemy for a fraction of a second, time enough for maybe one accurate shot. Slower fire rate weapons can deliver a single shot just as fast, and do 2x-5x as much damage.

2. When you do get to hold down the fire button, high fire rate weapons give your mind less time to react to evasive maneuvers ( you lose shots while reacting ). You are more likely to have time to re-align the guns with a slower refire weapon without skipping a beat.

Just the observations of a professional PKer.

whoa whoa just noticed this post! yes, hammerhead cleans shop! My fav arsenal is alot like urs default, 2 adv debils, and 4 skyblast bs.... who knows if krakens are better, but i go for style! gotta match! Also 2 kraken/wyrm 1's and 2 kraken/wyrm 2's along with 1 cannonbal and 1 TDC seems to work pretty well....

(edit: Kirghiz: no, no it wouldt. youd be surprised... ppl here can vouch)
oh yes, hammerhead cleans shop
