Multiplayer and (UK) ISP Auto disconnect?

I've been SPing for a while now, but i'm wooried i'll go blind and grow hair on the palms of my hands if i carry on, so i'm going to make the jump to MP.

Not to name names (begins with free, ends with serve) but my ISP auto-disconnects me after 2 hrs. Can anyone let me know how this will affect the game on a server hosted by a) me and b) someone else (will i crash everyone on the server?).

If it's going to ruin the MP experience, can someone recommend a good UK ISP for online gaming?

The two hour disconnect will totally screw your MP gaming experience!

Best thing about MP is grouping or fighting with others but it'll be pointless if you're gonna be getting disconnected every 2 hours. You also restart at the last station you docked at so you'd end up docking at every station possible so not to loose to much game time and end up re-starting half way across the galaxy!

Won't be feasible to run a server at all because everyone will get disconnected mid-game when your ISP kicks you off, but you probably wouldn't want to off a dial-up anyway unless it's only for yourself and a friend - even a 56K connection is only really good enough for one player connecting to a server.

My advice would be to switch to a decent ISP with no disconnect time. Even some of the free UK isps are better than what you're using (BT Internet I assume?).

I use Demon Internet which are cool because they have no disconnect, surftime packages for "un-metered" dialup, ADSL and fixed IP (great for running servers) but any of the "big name" ISPs such as Pipex, Tiscali, NTL, FreeServe, Virgin etc will be fine if you just wanna connect to other peoples servers.

Thanks, I'm using Freeserve but you list it in your big names list. Am i the only one they're kicking out every two hours?

Either way, sounds like it's time to change ISP...

I use the same ISP which you failed to name so well and have been using MP ever since the game came out over here.

Although the auto-disconnect is a pain, it doesn`t interfere too much. The things you will find most annoying are that the server you are using may be full when you reconnect and that you can`t take on missions (or player escorting) when time is running out.

Just have a clock handy so you don`t get caught out and maybe pick a less popular server.

As has been said, MP server hosting is definitely out though.
