Arms Dealer?

One thing that I like about MP Freelancer is the ability to trade cargo and equipment between players without going through a commodity trader. Some of the most lucrative deals that I have ever made have been in the sale of Level 10 weaponry to those who want it. I can usually get more than what the NPC salesmen will give me. Since I hate wreck-camping and waiting for a reboot, my opportunities for selling SILVER FIRE or DIAMONDBACK weapons are few, but Nomad cannons are in plentiful supply for the intrepid.

Which brings me to this question:
Is there enough demand for Nomad guns to justify making a career out of harvesting them or does everybody who wants them have them already? For example, I have 4 Nomad blasters that I put in my cargo bay when I switched to the cannons. Should I try to sell them on the player market or just settle for the paltry sum the NPC's will give me?

What I'm looking for here is economic tips. I haven't been playing for quite long enough to get a feel for the dynamics of the MP Freelancer universe. Arms dealer sounds like an interesting Freelancer career, but only if there is a demand for the product.

I think this would be a very good idea, however, most people who want the nomad guns can just go out and kill nomads. Very few newer players who do not have a VHF will buy these guns, since they cant mount them, and if they die they lose the guns. Just my thoughts.

Once the server patch is out of beta and everyone has it you might have a problem being an arms dealer. The new patch considers it cheating if you charge more for a weapon than it is worth.

I wonder... How would the patch react to trading like this:

1> Buyer gives the credits to Seller (via trade interface)
2> Seller jettisons the items
3> Buyer tractors them in

Has anybody tested something like this? It would require trust and a remote location to work. Wouldn't want a passerby to steal the weapons

You may have a point. I've really only sold CODENAME guns, and then for about 50,000 apiece. That is certainly less than what they'd sell for in a store, if you could buy them. Nomad guns are worth a lot less, as far as the stores go, anyway.

so selling (trading) anything above their CURRENT value will qualify as cheating... WHY? I was realy thinking about becoming an in flight equipment dealer! Oh well, i could loot the and sell them for their value. After Reoairs.

I haven't had any trouble selling guns on Elite. I sold two SILVER FIREs for $150k; more than I could get selling to NPCs, but less than they would cost if I tried to buy them back from NPC. I don't know what Holliday is talking about when he says "worth." Is this what NPCs will buy them for or sell them for? Or some average? And who does the server consider is cheating? The seller? The buyer? Both? In short, I don't think it is actually cheating. The problem with being a full time arms dealer is demand. Very few of the somewhat limited CAPNAME guns are more useful than the essentially unlimited Nomad guns, and anyone able to equip class 10 guns is capable of killing a few Nomads themselves. And there are no repeat customers. Once someone's got the weapons they want, they've got them. You may have better, if less profitable, luck selling midrange guns to developing players. For example, someone freighting goods doesn't feel safe going into hostile territory to get that better turret (or shields!), or maybe doesn't have a good enough rep to buy it themselves. You could charge a reasonable finders/delivery fee.

And another slightly different twist is if you don't have the right faction, and don't want to spend 50-150k 'fixing' it, find a middleman with the right contacts...

Ok here is what happens. I sold a del Cid to a friend for 120k (more or less). He rounded the figure up which put it over the retail for the gun. He was unceremoniously kicked off the server for cheating. Upon his return his gun was gone. It is to prevent price gouging. Neither of us had any idea this would happen. He rounded the price up because we both are rich and it didn’t matter to either of us. This has been well documented in the Elite thread so this is really old news guys. You can get away with it in some cases. Nomad weapons don't seem to count because there is no retail. There is a resale price, but no retail price.

wow that's weak.. you could do 2 trades to get it done.. early on I tried to be a flying gun dealer too- like someone up there posted it is'nt really profitable.. maybe if you sold lower level guns but you would'nt make enough money to make it worth your time.. thing with 2 trades come to think of it- you'd have to trust each other so noone gets scammed
