Whaa????!

Is it me or has elite removed its need for password and dropped its total player count by 5?

I see the same.

Apparently that is the case though I have no idea why they would want to do something like that. It does not seem to serve any clear logical purpose.

There is actually, a purpose to, what some feel to be, this insane behavior:

- No Password: As we are close to releasing the final version of the patch, we are inviting all players to join and do their best to crash/hack/break the server.

- Lowering player count: This is temporary, but from the admin perspective (I don't actually get to play on this server, or the game at all, much) it appears that there are several moments when lag is quite bad. I am referring to the times when the FL server console indicates that there is a 400-600+ MS server load, followed by a few e-mail/postings indicating the lag was quite extreme.

My first and foremost task is to make this a great server for all.

Suggestions, questions, comments always welcome, here, or via e-mail ([email protected]).
- Password?
- Maximum players (on current hardware)?
- Latest patch comments? (there has to be something good/bad about it, anyone?)

Thanks,

Keep the password but up the player count to 40 people! And the patch, if done anything (which I know it has just I can't knowtis anything), should be left as well!

Patch has been fine ever since the server was taken down a few days ago to upgrade the beta patch - I'm sure you already are aware of the exploding bug that was occuring before then.

I don't really notice any difference otherwise, though Elite's ping was lower by about 10ms before the patch was applied, and I've noticed that some things appear to be more heavily synchronized to the server than they were before, such as torpedoes ( there always seems to be a slight delay after they're fired now before they actually appear, which is making using them a little more difficult than it was before ).

Cr1122, they've already tried increasing the player limit beyond 30 and it didn't work out too well, even in the unpatched and slightly less laggy state the server was in before, even 32 caused problems.

I think the playercount is OK, but with the password gone, its impossible to get in, I waited for 45 minutes for ASE to send me in, then it tells me "nope, **** you Helly, its full again." without using ASE its pointless, no way I will sit there for 45 minutes hitting refresh every few seconds.

All Seeing Eye, joins servers from a little application thing, I have it, but since I'm lazy I won't look up the site.

ahh... all seeing eye, i think i have it somewhere... i'll have to fire it up. thx cool

Post Sun May 11, 2003 3:06 am

All Seeing Eye is all right, but it's more reliable to just keep hitting Connect, as ASE doesn't refresh the number of players in a game often ( even if you have it set to auto connect when a slot is free ).

Yeah, trying to connect is the first exciting 5 minutes of gameplay

I think that the password is a good thing to have, because I bet some random people on the net are just coming there because if it's not full, it has people to interact with. You should atleast have the password so people can't just get on without visiting the webpage.
