Help on Connecting....This is enraging me...

I'm trying to play at school. the computer im hooked up on is on a LAN, and every time i click on multiplayer it says "connecting to global server." i let it sit for 45 minutes, but it never connected to anything. what's wrong????

Check with the Admin, see if they allow that via the network at your school.

Some won't.

i'm on a broadband connection that let's me connect to other online games with ping times less than 40... yet i cannot connect to the "global server" to play Freelancer online. Any explanations to THAT?

Reboot your modem. Unplug it and plug it back in. Then restart (not reboot, different deal) your computer. This does it for me when I can't connect.

Freelancer uses different ports to games such as quake, hl etc. ask your sysadmin to open ports 2302-2304, but if they refuse (which i guess they will) then you'll have to enter the ip addresses of the servers you want to play on manually, either using the commandline, or fldirectip.hta.

i just tried it again after i posted here... finally was able to connect. but then the server admin for Elite announced he would be shutting it down in 10 minutes, so i only got about 15 minutes in before i had to quit. didn't get to experience much, except a fight with Xenos. took me 4 minutes to kill ONE of them. that was funny!

Glad you made it on board. If they shut down the server it was for a good reason. When it comes back on line it should be even better. What did you do to connect? Others might want to know.
