Legioneer Speed?

On Elite I have a Legioneer and I noticed when I activate the afterburners and fire weapons at the same time the craft excellerates to somewhere inbetween 250 and 300, my question is whats going on?

happens to me too, and on other servers. Seems to happen the most when in free flight, firing weapons with afterburners. Can't always reproduce it, but it happens off and on. Usually the ship is seen kind of jumping around (not lag), when the speed increase happens. it doesn't help much though, asides from being able to distance yourself from some hostile NPCs
