MP lag

I'm experiencing really bad lag when playing online. My ping to the server I'm playing on is about 40, but ingame its barely playable. Enemy ships teleport here and there and I can't hit a thing!
I'm not behind a firewall or connected through a router...
Any suggestions?

Either the server isnt up to it, hardware and or connection specs wise. Or theres loads of people in the server cheating with mods which do add lag and usually crash servers.

So unless its a known Good server, try another as Freelancer has good net code.
