Lan MP movement of Charactors

My Lan group are looking at this game as a possible bulk purchase.
We like many of the features but have 2 questions.
1) The MP version seems to be getting a bit of a slating for poor interlinking.
True or False, Is a patch in progress? Is it a major problem?
2) The available information suggests charactors cant be moved off the server it is created on due to the dual access codes.
My Lan group want to level up there charactors in MP mode on there own machines so that at the LAN meet we can group together and take on some decent contracts. Can MP charcotrs be moved to a central server in this way????
Or do we all have to start with new charactors bar the person whos machine we use as the server???

From what I know:

"1) The MP version seems to be getting a bit of a slating for poor interlinking.

The patch is in the works. DA has been testing it on thier MP server, and not TLR has the patch and is running it on thier Elite server.

Characters CAN be moved from one server to another. You will just need to log into each server, then you can copy the files to that computer. I have a back up server on mine, my second computer. I have the entire Freelancer MP folder copied to that computer every night..Unless no one logs into my server.

It CAN be done..and it's not that hard...and contrary to popular belief....It's NOT cheating....

Thanks. just a little bit more please
1) best place to download such a patch when available (Digital Anvil?)

2) Just to confirm. a) Log into lan server and save b) log off c) copy MP player!! folder from own machine (which has run own MP game to level up player) to Lan server. d) log back in to Lan server using own ID and confirm file is loaded correctly. All players follow this patten in turn E) Lan server Hosts starts new MP. f) all players login and can group together on a mission.

Please confirm I am going along the right lines

I've been thru this myself so allow me to elaborate. Let's say you have two FL servers you're running and you want to be able to play using the characters from Server 1 on Server 2. You have to copy the Multiplayer folder from Server 1 to Server 2. I'm pretty sure you could just copy the folders inside the Multiplayer folder from one server to another, but I haven't tried that yet. Does that make any sense?

Yep makes sense
Our need is odd in that we would wish to combine a number of chactors from different machines into a single LAN server for a 2 day LAN party.
I have seen comments about Reg EDITing ID codes and wondered how this fits in?. I understand copying the main folder and understand that there is a sub folder per player and if thats alll we will push on a buy a set of FL discs.
I need to be such of what extactly must be done to move MP chartors from each player own MP folder to the main LAN server.
