Multiplayer for Newbies!

I'm new to the Freelancer Multiplayer scene, and I was wondering what the best possible way of starting the game and building up your levels quickly. Is it better to do loads of missions or lots of trading?
Also which ships should I get at the early stages?

um get someone to help you, then go right from the starflier to the eagle it really doesn't matter what you do it goes pretty fast either way but i think raiding storage depots is a quick way to get some credits and you can also do a few trade runs if you want a good freighter get the Dromdary at Mactan Base in the Magellan system, dont bother getting weapons for it just get an advanced thruster and countermeasure launcher

Peace through superior firepower.

I like to do a little of everything. It's not the fastest way to Level Up, but leveling up for the sake of leveling up seems kinda boring to me.

Anyway, I like to get a Defender as soon as possible, that way you can travel further with some assurance of survivability(throughout Liberty and to the edges of Kusari, Rheineland, and Bretonia). If you are on a server where New York is a no-PK zone, there are a few short trade routes you can do where the per unit/profit is low, but the short trip(one trade lane)makes it worth the effort worth it IMO. It's more fun to do Missions though. You could also do some mining, but the most money you'll get this way will be from the goodies you get from Rogues and other dead baddies.

Once I get a Defender I like to go to Planet Pittsburg and pirate from the Junkers who like to use the Trade Lane. Most of the time they'll carry junk like Water, Food, or some other low profit item, but sometimes they'll have Gold, Diamonds, Cardamine(avoid using Trade Lanes and the cops), or something of value.

After making a couple hundred K, I travel out of New York to buy a Barracuda. This isn't the fastest or best way to get started, but It's what I use.

Well to get started I usually spend some time doin in system trading H-fuel or Light Arms. After that I get a Rhino and trde some more... then get the Domby. Once you get the domby you can trade cadramamine get to lvl 25+ within a few hours. But that is only when you have A LOT of time on your hands. Trading drugs is the way to go when looking for $$$ then I usually go for an EAGLE. This takes time but its the way to go simply trade drugs... 0_-" those kids in liberty will never know what hit em... he he he

1. Destroy atleast 1 whole storage depot in manhatten to make a lot of the pirates attack you less (lane hackers, rogues, outcast, Gaian mostly)

2. Trade

Manhatten, NY: Lux Cons Goods -> Cambridge, Cambridge / Cambridge, Cambridge: Lux Food -> Manyatten, NY is a populer route as you only have to deal with a few corsairs that you just run from, takes about 15-17 minutes one way, and you can get the rhino after the first round trip, than clyds on next visit to Cambridge. Also puts you in position to get the Dorm if you want.

Leeds, Leeds: Light arms -> Ronneburg, Omega 5 / Ronneburg, Omega 5: Diamonds -> Leeds, Leeds Is a good route if you are pirate friendly, and its pretty short.

Best in system trade that I have found is N. Berlin, N. Berlin: Engine componantes -> Krutsburg, N. Berlin / Krutsburg, N. Berlin: Caldimine -> N. Berlin, N. Berlin With a Dormy you can get 100k round trip and it takes about 5 minutes.

And the Staple trade run is Krutsburg, N. Berlin: Diamonds -> N. Tokyo, N. Tokyo / N. Tok, N. Tok: Nibonium -> The Ring, N. Berlin takes about 15 minutes I guess and with a Dormy gets you about 550k.

Hope this helps.

You practicly destroy an entire alian civilization single handedly, supposedly saving the entire human race, reward: $20,000 and a pat on the back. The straight and narrow just don't pay, hence I am a merc.

For me, I just hunt outcast ships in the Tau systems and loot their cargo and make tons of money like that.
