i have a serious problem with fl.

i want to join my own server, meaning:

start freelancer
mp lan game

my own server does not show in the list

i have seen it work at a friends pc, but it doesn't work on mine.

is this a well known problem, thus a well known solution?

Tested this on my PC and could only join via my public IP but not via not Lan. So guess you have to have a Active Lan for that.

From a previous post it says you need to edit the freelancer.ini file and change the list server hostname to "localhost" (or your pc's ip address)

I didn't have any problems joining my own server. But, then again, maybe I did something different. Here's what I did:

1) start flserver
2) start up my own server (make a server name, uncheck broadcast on global server, make a password just in case)
3) minimize flserver
4) start freelancer
5) hit multiplayer and goto the global server menu
6) see my server, click on it, join it

that was it. No problems what-so-ever.

System specs: P4 2.54, Linksys wired router, msn arescom dsl modem, windows XP Home, 512 MB RAM, GeForce4 ti4600.

Sorry I couldn't help.

there are some major issues with this server software. i have searched through the forums and have found nothing in terms of solutions, in fact i have only found this one post which seemed remotely connected to my problems. let's get a couple details straight first. everything happening here is behind a router, but there is _not_ a router between the server and the client. (everything is done through the LAN) I have tried manually choosing servers using the command line method with no success.

i have 3 machines which i am working with here. all of them are on a local network, same subnet (192.168.0.x)
a) 1.2 ghz dedicated server (amd) (win2k) - server install only, no directX 9 - fresh install [today.
b) 1.5 ghz game machine (intel) (winXP) - full install, DX9, played single for a loong time - installed maybe a month ago.
c) 1.45 ghz game machine (amd) (winXP) - full install, DX9, some single playing - installed a couple weeks ago.

now, there is a single hub between all these machines, they are connected directly with no filtering or anything. here's what i do:
1) i start flserver on all 3 machines (dedicated server and both gaming machines) - FLServer Version 1.0 Build 11
2) i start up freelancer on machine b.
3) go to multiplayer, select either lan or internet
4) refresh - nothing, not one of the 3 servers show up.

how can i get nothing! not even the server hosted on the machine i'm trying to play on! WTF? How can a machine not see itself?

okay, so, i have 3 servers running in my network. one on each machine.
1) i boot up freelancer on machine c
2) select multiplayer, refresh, i get _one_ server. the one being hosted on machine c. - at least for some weird reason this machine can see itself.

what the h*ll is going on?

i ssh into one of my linux boxes and nmap (-p 1-65535) all 3 machines. i don't see any ports open on any of the machines related to flserver.

as a side note, these machines work for every other game out there, BF1942, starcraft, Unreal Tourney, Unreal Tourney 2003, Warcraft 3, even the buggy Tribes2...

Hmm, that's really strange. It works perfectly fine for me. I use windows 98, with it's integrated network crap. It's not very reliable, but it does work. Are you using a 3rd party network protocol? It might also be later versions of windows. Like I said, I havn't had the problem, so I don't know if my suggestions will be of any help.

i can't see my server either... but i am not in an Active Lan cos my second computer haven't come, so my LAN connection shows a red X meaning my "Network cable is unplugged". is this the problem?

running xp home...
