Grouping = "Complex" missions in the manual?

In the freelancer manual, on page 36, they say something about mission complexity changing when you use the grouping feature. Here's the text:

"Working with others allows you to take on more dangerous and complicated assignments--with higher pay rates as well."

Is there any truth to this? I've never done a mission with more than 1 other person, myself. I'd expect somebody would've found out already if there were any unlockable mission types for big groups, like this seems to imply... though I do remember seeing the mission payment increase. I was sure I saw it at 310k once on the corsair homeworld (isn't the max while solo 250k?).

i've only done 2 missions with someone else and we shared the Bounty which didnt increase.

Probably a cut feature, unfortunately. The manual obviously hasn't been updated since one of the earlier betas ( 1131, I think ) and there are still a lot of references to things that either were removed from the game or things that they did not have time to implement. Missions do *not* get harder or pay more while grouped, and really, there's almost no point in grouping with the shared mission rewards.

i dont think it refers to actual missions, it may just mean that u are *able* to manage harder missions when grouping up with other ppl (and harder missions do pay more money).

If you go to BERING, you'll find missions with a bounty over 20000.
These are the kind of missions where you better work together with someone else.

Huh? Bering? You could just get a higher level and go there. It's simple, you just do higher level missions than you normally would alone. Of course, this doesn't work if you're already VHF.

You'll get more complex missions, but it's also dependant on these factors.

Your power
your wingman's power
Your collective power
Individual and group reputation with the particular faction you are working with.
where in the universe you are taking the mission (Don't expect anything good from Liberty no matter what your stats are.

If you're level 30 hanging with a level 10 guy, don't expect a good mission.
Also, if a wingman is neutral to hate with the faction you're trying to work for, you won't get good missions.

Also, Look at your political map. any place that is green will give you the best money for your work, white zones pay medeochre, and red zones will not hire you. There is usually more than one political zone per system so if you can find a system where the 2 (or more) occupying factions are at war, you'll get even more money.

The game is reflecting real life political climate so if you're playing Navy (or something like that) the best paying missions will be against the Outcasts (because they smuggle cardamine) and any faction listed as terrorist in the game. As Navy your best mission are going to be in Systems and zones known for lawlessness. As a criminal, the best missions will be in places where police rule.

Also, have every member of a flight wing scour the bars. There can be as much as a 50% difference in pay for the same mission depending on who takes it.

If youplay it right I know you can get mission paying as much as 250k, because I have done them as a group.

I have heard tales, (although I cannot confirm this) from more than one person of the game creating missions to take out real players who happen to be in the system. In the 3 cases I have heard of this the claimed payout was 350k.
Still, this I will believe when I see it. But at least it explains the games reactions when you go PvP,

PvP combat will radically alter your reputation very quickly, more so than bribing.

if a missions says 3k pay, and you have 2 wingmen, do you then get eacht 3k or 1k a person?

I'd like to know your source for that little bit of info, Nog.

Based on my experience the past couple of days, when grouped you split the mission bounty. Still, it makes for some fun fights.
