HEEEEELLLLLPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hello.

HEEEEEELP MEEEEEEE

My game has stuffed. Im the kind of dumb person who likes to muck about with game files and stuff and who DOESNT BACK FILES UP AAAARGH.

So, back the the problem, MY GAME HAS STUFFED. I am going to reinstall it, but i DONT WANT to start over on MP, because on a particular server i was in the middle of something and i had almost all the systems explored and so on.

So IS THERE ANY WAY i can get the MP file/settings for me on that server/whatever that file is that you need to start off where you left it on one particular server, and put it in whatever folder it needs to go in in my NEWLY installed freelancer. I dont want to just copy the whole Freelancer folder and paste it over my new install, because some of the *mucked up* files may come with it.

I NEED HELP OTHERWISE ME= NO MORE FREELANCER

BY THE WAY the problem with the game i have is that it says "Invalid Accelerator" every so often and when i try to play none of the keys work. Another clue.

Don't worry... about the files anyway. Multiplayer character files are saved on the server computer of the host. So, essentially, as long as you weren't hosting the server, the files will still be there on the other guy's comp when you reinstall. Remember to print out or copy your ID (CD-key... what do they call those twenty characters of unique garbage again?) though, as it's somewhat hard to get it back after a reinstall, I've heard.

You can see your FL account ID by going into the EXE directory of your Freelancer folder and opening myflaccountid.hta, or alternately going into your start menu, navigating to the Freelancer folder there, and select Examine My Account ID.

Yeah, if you lose that CD key after reinstalling, you will lose your online chars. It isn't printed anywhere on the case or disc either. I'm not sure how it's made, probably some crazy random generator based on your system ident, or something (otherwise it would be the same after reinstalling). You can view it at any time by running myflaccountid.hta in the EXE dir. Copy it or print it or something: if you use that after reinstalling, the servers will still recognize you and you'll have the same characters.

Just a question...

Is there any way for a server admin to find a player's account ID for them in a character file or something similar?

On FLServer, click Edit, then Accounts. There's a listing of all character names with the ID right above them.

The ID listed in the Freelancer server is not the same as what is displayed by myflaccountid.hta .
I believe it's encrypted or something...

It is explained perfectly in the server readme on the CD.
- User has a unique ID. During first launch of the game, the ID can be entered, it is PROFILE dependant. How important this ID is is perfectly explained in the text coming with it !
- Server has a unique ID. A mix of both IDs are made to obtain the final server-player's ID. This prevents "bad" server operators to retrieve player IDs, from their public server and "use" them.

Goddam read the texts before pressing "ok" or "cancel" )

Its still very easy to get someone elses character if you were a "bad server admin"... trial and error is one method..
but that won't give you the ID..

perhaps if someone writes an FL decompressor/decrypter etc then nothing will be safe...

I'd like something to edit further server commands myself... I want to be able to change that "lose 100% of unequiped stuff/commodities".. it might be in the Freelancer.ini but it has no effect on the server
