Freighters.. Are they worth it?

I'd love to buy a frieghter and do some solo runs moving mass cargo.. the only problem is that I bought a Hunchback a while ago, and got my arse kicked every bloody time I went out.. They're just too damned slow, and don't let you carry enough recharges..

Is there a decent frieghter to do solo runs in?

dromy ... and btw it works in a humpback aswell fine, but stimm dromy is alot better.

just never make the mistake to even TRY to fight. RUN FOREST should be your way to play when in a freighter. and this works damn easy anyway in any ship. even a humpback.

If you're a good enough shot you can mow enemies down in a drom, but you're better off just running since you will be making insane amounts of money anyway.

Some tactics:
Use afterburner WITH engine kill... so you dont run out of burner % and you move almost the same speed as you do with cruise mode... and thouse pescky little distruptors wont have any affect on you neither.

engine kill?

Hey guys, I nomaly make around 100,000 a trip with my humpback.. London to Newyork. And I dont get fired at once.
Just make it so that nobody is red on your list of contact's
I found that killing liberty police untill they hate you abit but not enough to attack you makes everbody else leave you alone..
Work a charm.

if i get ambushed i can kill any closing enemy with my turrets in a humpback, never got killed in a hump yet
In the Drom i got killed several times coz the turrets are mounted wierd and turn slower then **** ,also the armour is less though it is more agile ,which doesn't help against cruise disribtors though
Ofcourse the hump isn't more expensive for nothing ,more armour , more nanobots more shieldbatterys and better powerplant
I just point it in the direction to go and change to turret view
With the drom u can make easy 220k a trip from cal - leeds and back from new London - cal about the same
with a few trips u shoot up to lvl 21 or so

humpback=300k diamond runs from berlin to tokyo, and over 100k back to berlin (the ring) right outside berlin dock gate with Nirobian?? whatever it is..

the catch is sigma-13 run like hell through there, even if you die you make so much cash it's all good.

I've been flying a Humpback for a little while now, and doing the Diamond run from Berlin to New Tokyo. I go the back way around Sigma 13, I've also got a bad rap with ALL the pirate factions... So, the run is far from safe. Here are my tips for survival with a Humpback:

1. Get an Advanced Countermeasure Dropper, you will want this to deter cruise disruptors, and launch them as soon as you hear a missle warning. ( for a cool view, jump to a turrent behind view and you can see your countermeasures working)
2. Get improved thrusters, Advanced/Heavy (forgot which is better)
3. Get big guns for the humpback, at least class 5 turrets.
4. Don't stick around to fight if you are VERY outnumbered.
5. The humpback is the only ship (I think) that has 5 guns facing your enemies at every angle (thus the better turrets are nice). Don't try and manuever (you barely can anyway), make use of the turrets!
6. Buy the biggest shields she'll support. The combination of the massive shields and the ships armor makes you very hard to kill.

With all that, I've never been taken down making solo runs.

Hope this helps, Good luck...
BTW, I link the tip about the engine-kill (Z key), never dawned on me.

ok, why would you trade? (other then for fun) you say you make 300k a trip, i can make 300k in 15min doin bar missions

Post Tue Apr 01, 2003 8:42 pm

Yep, go to pirate worlds(if they like you) and do "kill this target/station/cargo" missions for 100k+(I did one worth 230k, killed the target in my first run and beat the hell out of there and back to crete)

when you start a char there is no way your getting 300k mission's...
by the time you start getting pirate missions you probably have a tricked out ship anyway..

it's a quicker level to trade from the start, then get the eagle, sabre etc.. and then go bad. it takes me about 4-6 hrs to get a million from the start, to some that might even be to slow, and yes I think trading is more fun than the 1k-3k missions in manhattan with those little pea shooters=/
