Problems with LAN Server

I up a LAN Server, but when I try to start a LAN Game I simply don't find my server. A friend of mine did exactly the same and it worked for him. We both are on Win XP machines. Why does it work for him and not for me?

Any ideas what I could try to change to get it working?

Where are you running the server? What kind of configuration are you using on your private network?

The first basic thing to check would be to find out if your server (workstation1) is visable to the machine that you're trying to attach to the server with (workstation2). Try either browsing your My Network Places, or by using ping and ipconfig /all at a command prompt. If workstation1 and workstation2 are on two different subnets, they won't be able to see each other unless you have configured routing between them.

If you can describe how your network is setup a little more, perhaps I (or someone) can help you further.
