SP in MP

I can't connect to my own server.

I start the server and enter Freelancer. Go to Multiplayer select my server.Click Connect. And it just says "The requested operation is taking longer than expected".

My computer isn't conected to a HUB or another computer(I can't connect when it is connected to another computer eather)

I copleted the SP 10 times and I want to practice(it gets boring when you start with Anubis).

Please help.I'm desperate.

Are you running a software firewall? XP has one that it likes to enable.

I turned it off but it didn't help.

I think your computer must be connected to some network, that way your network card can then establish its IP address, so that the MP server can run.
Of course the server cannot run without an identified IP address on your machine.

I had that problem when connecting to my own server until I installed DirectX 9. The newer DirectPlay8 components are NEEDED.
