Loosing all Cargo on death

Has anyone maybe an idea how to change the Mp-Game in this way, that you wont loose anything when you die.

Thank you

Death is already lame, and you want to make it even more pointless??

Post Wed Mar 26, 2003 9:27 am

Exactly. There are already like no penalties for being killed in multiplayer, don't get rid of the only one.

i wonder if the trigger that a guy was talking about using for "paying to dock" can be used when dying or respawning.

Yeah, I hated it when someone Pk'ed me when I was carrying 350 k worth of cargo...

I know Ive had that happen to me a few times. You know what I did?? I hired a few escorts. I accully wish the death penalties were harsher. Like you have accully lose your ship. Mabey add an escape pod that launches automatically when your ship blows up and flies for like 30 secs away from the enemies then brings up the death menu. Saying you got picked up by a passing friendly and dropped off at the nearest base, where you have to buy a new ship. That would make people think twice about those long dangerous runs. Probably extend the game a little too because it would take longer to get money. That way theres accualy a death pentalty for people in fighters.

Damnit,

because of people like this guy DA made this game so damn easy, its a joke.
Seriosly man, I have NEVER played a game for only 1.5 weeks and outright dropped it.

Quit dying, and shut up. How would you like it if you lose your cargo and your weapons? Since pirates can loot them. Death in this game is already lame as all hell, as some people pointed out.

Im curious to see if DA does level based pk and give you a FAT penalty for dying like a dumbass to NPC's, like lose cargo and 3 levels (no eq loss), and in PK deaths, you can lose your cargo/weapons and some money.(yah, noobs have no business going to border worlds in their rhino if all the pirates and their mother hates them) It only makes sense for people to loot your sh1t, no? Im gonna laugh my ass off at the idiots who kill noobs in their uberships, when they get pk'd by someone and lose their guns/shield. Thats when I tell em to go to the care bear sever, because they only enjoy blowing up people who cant defend themselves, to show how MACHO they are. Humm....a bit off topic...yah well im still pissed at having paid 59 bucks and damn game is done.

Bleh...im ranting again

\EXE\freelancer.ini

[Server
death_penalty = 100 ; percentage of your cargo (commoditied and unmounted equipment) lost at death in MP

I really wouldn't set it any lower. This game is way too easy already. It would be nice if "ship" or "account" were valid options.

I would say it makes sense to lose cargo when you die.

Think of it this way. In Elite (the game, not the server), an escape capsule fitted to your ship came with "insurance", so that if you had to eject, you could get a new ship, minus upgrades and cargo.

The respawn function of FL duplicates this IMHO, but in a much quicker fashion for a multiplayer experience.

No penalty at all would probably be better than the way it is now for PvP servers.

A PKer is not going to go around with valuable cargo in his holds PKing people, so they have nothing to lose if they die. A trader he is picking on will lose his cargo (which could be a very big deal). The stakes should be against the guy initiating the hostilities or balanced, not the other way around.

Ideally you should lose some of your ship's equipment (25-50%, randomly selected). Then the people with Lvl 10 ships would be risking something by PKing.

Hmmm... good point, zuiko

What they need to do, is make sure your ship cannot carry more than 5 spare weapons in MP. This way, if you pk someone you cant full loot them.

No multiplayer game is ever evenly balanced when it comes to PKing.

Look at any mmorpg or even Diablo 2 for example. Most builds used by pkers are either overwhelming force, or sneak attacks, or both. Diablo 2 is especially imbalanced towards co-op players or non-cookie cutter builds (those who try different or out there builds), since hostility in that game takes advantage of a lot of bugs such as wp trapping or slow load times at waypoints.

In this game, there's not as many "builds" as there are in fantasy RPGs, since you've got fighters or freighters. Regardless of weapon loadout, ANY Freighter is a pretty explosion in the eyes of a Sunslayer torping Sabre.

It seems to me that if you're gonna enter a server with the little skull and crossbones on it, you really have no cause to whine.

How about this, you lose your cargo and half your cash. That would make you think twice.
