Connecting to Multiplayer

I'm trying to connect to LAN games and keep getting timeouts.

3 pcs on a LAN, all 3 can see the game but only 2 can connect, I can make my own server and neither of the other 2 can connect to it. I cant even connect to my own server, i get the following message

" Please Wait. The requested operation is taking longer then expected
Press the Escape key to cancel it "

after you hit the escape key the following shows up

" I'm sorry, but a connection could not be established to that server. This is usually caused by a server going offline when you attempt to connect to it. It may also be caused by internet problems. Please try again. "

Anyone have any ideas as to why i wouldnt be able to connect to my own server?

If someone has a suggestion to this problem, I would appreciate it.

I am also having this disconnect problem. 2 computers on a network 1 can connect mine cannot. In addition to the " I'm sorry, but a connection could not be established to that server. This is usually caused by a server going offline when you attempt to connect to it. It may also be caused by internet problems. Please try again," error message, I occasionally receive one that states my name and password do not match the server's. This is odd when I try to connect to games that do not have passwords. I cannot join my own server nor an internet based one. The other computer can do both.

I am using a linksys BEFSR41 and have placed myself in the DMZ (the person who can connect is not). I have tried both ways.

I have turned off Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall as well. The Freelancer 'examine my account ID' states everything is correct.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Well there are many solutions, like reinstalling DirectX 9.0.

Maybe you should do a port scan on scan.sygate.com, first do TCP port scan and then UDP port scan.
I can't connect to any mplayer server because my ISP is blocking all UDP ports :/

I am not sure if this will help you wizekrax, but these conditions fixed my situation. Thanks for the suggestion cslim -- I actually did reinstall DX9

I was using the ZyXEL Prestige 600 series modem (with earthlink), and I swapped it with a Efficient Networks Speedstream 5260, and now everything is fine. I can only speculate that some internal settings on the modem itself may have been blocking the UDP ports (the modem was not shipped with the default password from earthlink, so I could not access it). Of course, it is odd that one computer would not have a problem but mine would -- but it worked.

I hope this can help you in some way.
