player account saving?

i was wondering how and when the player accounts are saved. Is it when we are docked... or when we switch characters, or is there an internal timed autosave? I'm especially concerned because of server stability issues related to FL (eg server restarts due to memory leaks, etc), which would lend to unsaved progress at unopportune times.

It's when you dock. So when travelling, especially in dangerous areas, dock often.

I dunno...Ive had my game crash right in the middle of a mission and then log back on and Im in the exact same spot I was when I crashed. I think it save pretty regularly.
