Account name and password incorrect

when ever i try to join a server i get this error, if i try to join a lan server i just get THE DID NOT CONNECT, THE SERVER MAY HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OFF WHILE YOU WERE JOINING.

any ideas ?????

Do you have DX9 installed? Even legit copies get this error without it.

I have found this question already further down this forum ( DOH ).
It is a directX problem, i downloaded DirextX from the internet but this does not have the direct play files, i installed the one from the cd and its all o.k.

The internet DX9 installer does not provide the DirectPlay files!?!
