Major problem with Freelancer Server

I run a small private server off of my SDSL line; I'm mainly testing right now to see capacity. The problem I'm running into, though, is that seemingly randomly, players will go from level XX (Any level) to level 38, and find that they have 95 million in cash in their bank account from out of nowhere.

As nice as it is to give my players gifts every once in a while (I'm pretty high up there myself; I help by donating bits and peices and things), giving them 95 million is a bit much.

Is there any fix to this bug, or anyone have any info as to why it's happening???

Ban them. They are cheating.

Yeah... ban the liing hell out of them. THey are using a trainer that can be goten at megagames.com (the only place i have seen it thus far). it will give up to 300mil for selling somethin. It doesn't seem to have negative effects on player files, but it is still cheating.

People will just continue to make new accounts and keep doing it..
one way to stop it, is by making it a private server and only allowing people you trust in..

but then, it defeats the whole point of the game... you'll be limited to a handful of people you know that won't cheat... instead of possibly hundreds on the chance that quite a few will cheat

Actually, this is a group that I know personally, whom I know AREN'T cheating. I know they're not using trainers.

I know this because it's happened to one of my characters on my own server. I bought a full load of missiles, went to the commodities trader... bam, 95 mil.

Are you still using the beta version? It had a similar bug which sometimes gave players large amounts of money when they bought equipment or commodities.

Otherwise, it's either cheating (which you insist is impossible) or a strange bug which I've never seen on any of the other servers I've played on.

Actually it doesn't take a trainer to do it ...all a person has to do is edit the ini files for droppable items and they can make them sell to vendors for however much they are worth and it works in MP servers for JUST the person who editted the ini files ...gotta love how far microsoft thought they're game out. Let's see ..let's make all the multiplayer characters stay on the server side where everytime a server goes down players loose everything and have to start over. Plus it'll increase security by having everything server side. So why don't we make every other aspect of the game edittable just by changing some ini values even in multiplayer. Hell you don't even NEED to edit the character files. You can just hack the ini's and get the exact same result. Great job microsoft! Ingenious!

*Sigh*...

This game is made by Digital Anvil, produced by Microsoft. They had little influence on the game design.

What is this fight the power mentality most people have that makes them hate Microsoft? It makes no sense to me that people hate Microsoft for being the dominant company in their market.

I won't rule out cheating as a possibility, but given how well I know the group of people playing, I'm considering it very, very unlikely. Same with the ini editing.

I'm using the retail version bought from the store, and haven't had any other issues. The server is stable, hardly any lag... just that one bug that rockets a player from level 7 to 38 instantly...
