Question, regarding texture files on an object

hello TLR

What I am trying to do is I want to create a large sphere, about the size of the star sphere or a little smaller, with interor sides to attach a texure file, a pattern, then i want to slowly spin the object, so that it will seem that the star sphere in the distance is moving.

that I want to know is, Is this possibe to do, and if so what files do i need to access

can anyone help answer this Q for me.

thx

The star sphere files are normal .cmp objects but they are loaded by the engine and displayed as a skysphere. To make them spin would require a graphical engine hack, which naturally is impossible. The only way to achieve that would be to make a "fake" sphere thats over 1000000 in radius (or something equally as insanely huge) and then make it so that it can be seen from that far away. Then you could get it to spin. Unfortunatly a persistant player could also bump up against it, and the sphere would move slightly as you zipped across a large enough system.

So, i would suggest just resizing the .cmp file to an egregious size, loading it into the system as an object and giving it spin. I have no idea what will happen.

Thats where the cmps are located.

I may have to try this myself...

EDIT: Eh, all i managed to do was make FL shove itself up its own ass.

Blackhole,
At least you tried.

to make that work, once you have made the CMP youll have to highlight everything (i suggest doing this before you make it insanly massive) and switch the vertex's round, in milkshape you go to face and then reverse vertex order, that way you apply the texture and it will be on the inside of the model, and not on the outside

@cheese on toast

If he uses the already made starsphere models, he doesn't need to do that.

i was thinking along those lines if he wanted it to spin ^^

...He still wouldn't need to do it. If he uses a starsphere model, he only needs to resize it, add an archetype for it, put it in a system as an object and make it spin.
