Make sure you're using mouse flight, and go to cruise as soon as possible. The dude you race against screws up near the end, so you need to take advantage of that. Always try to cut inside during the turns. And if you're piloting a freighter, it may be time to trade it in.

I'll probably be trying to run the race in a Dromedary tonight. If I can't make it, I'll prolly go to a save game and do it with a heavy fighter again. Didn't have any trouble my first time through.

You might also look for a topic pertaining to this in the spoilers section....but here's a hint...hit the cruise engines at the start and stick with them...you'll get ahead in the end!

Boy you must really suck. I won the dam race using the stupid Bretonia Freighter just use cruise default Shift+W. You be losing at first but you'll come around at the last quarter.

That is providing you can get used to the controls. They are so touchy that the slightest move and you are all over the place. Both my friend who got the game from his uncle in the US and me are both stuck on this race. It's only mission 6 and we can't get any further no matter what we try... We have even tried firing cruise missiles at him but it stops him for a couple of seconds.

Even tried editing the mission ini file but I can't see what to remove to get a win to start with.

And yes, we both suck as pilots but this race is really ruining the game for both of us.

If the controls are touchy, you might want to try turning down mouse sensitivity.

Alternatively, you might want to switch to (or away from) mouse flight mode (spacebar).

If you're having a lot of difficulty piloting the ship, try using a light fighter (freighter is harder). Hit cruise as soon as the race starts, and follow him through the loops. Use mouse-flight mode, and not the F2 autopilot.

All you need to do is keep up with him. He screws up towards the end of the race, so even if he's more than a ring in front you can still pass him.

Some people have big difficulties with the mouse-flight mode. In certain cases it's because the sensitivity is simply too high/low.

If you're not having problems shooting bad guys but can't control the ship properly, remember that, just like you have to POINT at the bad guy you want to shoot down, you have to POINT at the place you want to go.

You see a gate? Keep your mouse pointed on it and your ship will go there. If you try to lead the gate with your mouse, you'll overshoot the target.
